CBSE Announces Leadership Exposure Programme for School Principals
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled a fresh initiative aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of school leaders. Under this programme, selected principals from affiliated schools across India will have the opportunity to visit prestigious national institutions between January 22 and January 30. The initiative is designed to provide hands-on exposure to modern skill development frameworks, experiential learning models, and emerging pedagogical trends.
A Step Towards Aligning with NEP 2020
This exposure visit forms part of CBSE’s broader strategy to align school education with the objectives laid out in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The board has been actively encouraging the integration of skill-based and vocational training within mainstream schooling. As part of this vision, CBSE launched the principal exposure visit scheme two years ago. The programme has since been periodically refined, with reputed institutions being shortlisted from different parts of the country to host these visits.
For the upcoming session, five institutions have been selected to participate in this initiative. These include:
- Atlas Skill Tech University, Mumbai
- Lovely Professional University, Punjab
- Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Assam
- Birla Institute of Technology, Jharkhand
- Footwear Design and Development Institute, West Bengal
Purpose and Objectives of the Visits
The core objective of these visits is to offer principals a direct understanding of best practices being implemented in higher education and skill development sectors. Participants will gain insights into how vocational education can be seamlessly blended with conventional academic curricula. The programme also aims to strengthen familiarity with interactive and experience-driven teaching methodologies that can be adapted to school environments.
Principals attending the programme will engage with faculty members, observe institutional operations, and explore collaborative opportunities that could benefit their own schools. The exposure is expected to empower them with practical knowledge that can be translated into actionable strategies within their institutions.
Eligibility and Registration Process
CBSE has specified that only those principals who have not previously participated in any exposure visit organised by the board will be eligible to apply. This condition ensures that the opportunity reaches a wider pool of educators across the country. Interested candidates must confirm their participation through email, as no other mode of confirmation will be considered valid.
Given the limited number of slots and the high level of interest such programmes typically generate, early confirmation is advisable. The board has urged eligible principals to complete the registration formalities well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Skill Education Resources and School-Level Implementation
In addition to the exposure visits, CBSE has also been working to strengthen the availability of learning materials for skill education. The board’s textbook series, known as the Kaushal Bodh series, is now accessible in print format. These resources can also be downloaded from the NCERT website as well as CBSE’s academic portal, making them easily available to schools and students across the country.
Furthermore, CBSE has previously communicated that schools implementing skill education modules are expected to organise a skill fair at the end of the academic year. These fairs provide students with a platform to showcase the competencies they have developed through their projects and hands-on learning activities. The initiative is part of a broader push to ensure that skill education is not merely theoretical but is actively practiced and demonstrated.
Through such measures, CBSE continues to reinforce its commitment to holistic education, equipping both educators and students with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving academic and professional landscape.
