CBSE Issues Updated Advisory for Board Exams 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a live webinar on February 13, 2026, to announce significant updates and revised guidelines for the upcoming Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. The session focused primarily on the introduction of a digital evaluation system for senior secondary students, alongside crucial instructions for all candidates appearing in the exams.

Digital Evaluation System for Class 12 Answer Sheets

In a major procedural shift, CBSE is set to implement an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluating Class 12 answer scripts. This move comes as the board handles a substantial volume of examinations annually, with over 1.8 million students appearing across 120 subjects, resulting in more than 10 million answer booklets being assessed each year. The transition to a digital platform is expected to streamline the entire evaluation workflow.

Key Advantages of the New Marking System

The adoption of the On-Screen Marking system is projected to bring several tangible benefits to the examination process:

  • An automated workflow will accelerate the assessment process, reducing the scope for manual errors and human intervention.
  • A larger pool of examiners will be able to evaluate answer sheets remotely, enabling faster processing of the high volume of scripts.
  • The projected timeline for completing the evaluation is expected to shrink from the current 12 days to approximately 9 days.
  • Significant reductions are anticipated in both the time and cost associated with the physical transportation of answer booklets to marking centres.
  • Following the release of results, a separate, manual verification process for marks will no longer be required, as the digital trail will ensure accuracy.

Essential Guidelines for Students on Exam Day

Alongside the technological upgrades, the board has issued a clear set of instructions for students to ensure a smooth experience on the day of their examination. Adherence to these guidelines is crucial for a stress-free start to each paper.

Reporting Time and Preparation

Students are advised to arrive at their designated examination centre well ahead of the scheduled start time. While the examination is set to begin at 10:30 AM, candidates must be present at the centre by 10:00 AM to complete necessary formalities. The board specifically highlighted the need for students to plan their travel meticulously, taking into account potential delays like traffic congestion or route diversions. It is strongly recommended that candidates visit their examination centre in advance to familiarise themselves with the route and location, ensuring a hassle-free journey on the day of the exam.

These comprehensive updates, covering both the digital evaluation framework and the operational guidelines for students, are designed to make the examination process more efficient, transparent, and student-friendly. By leveraging technology and providing clear instructions, CBSE aims to enhance the overall experience for millions of students, their families, and educators across the country.
