CBSE Launches Free One-Day Teacher Training for Skill Education in Middle School

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a significant step toward strengthening skill-based learning in schools. Starting January 5, 2026, the board will conduct a series of one-day capacity building programmes (CBPs) for teachers across the country. These sessions are designed to support the effective implementation of skill education in classes 6 to 8.

Focus on NCERT’s Kaushal Bodh Activity Books

The training will be delivered entirely in offline mode. It will centre around the use of NCERT’s Kaushal Bodh Activity Books, which are specially developed to introduce hands-on, skill-oriented learning at the middle school level. Teachers will be guided on how to integrate these books into their classroom practices and align them with broader learning objectives.

According to the official notification released by CBSE, these programmes will be organised in collaboration with Sahodaya School Complexes across multiple districts and cities. The initiative aims to create a uniform approach to skill education, ensuring that students in affiliated schools receive consistent and practical learning experiences.

Who Should Participate?

CBSE has urged directors, principals, vice-principals, coordinators, and teachers from all affiliated schools to take part actively in these sessions. The board believes that strong participation from school leadership and teaching staff is essential for the successful rollout of skill education at the grassroots level.

By involving multiple stakeholders, the programme seeks to build a supportive ecosystem within schools—one where skill development is not treated as an add-on but as a core component of the curriculum.

Selection of Master Trainers

A key highlight of this initiative is the identification of Master Trainers (MTs) from among the participating teachers. Those selected will undergo additional preparation to train other educators in their regions. This train-the-trainer model is expected to multiply the impact of the programme, enabling wider coverage and more effective implementation of skill-based learning across CBSE-affiliated schools.

Master Trainers will play a pivotal role in mentoring fellow teachers, clarifying doubts, and ensuring that the methodology prescribed by NCERT is followed consistently. Their contribution will be vital in scaling up skill education in a structured and sustainable manner.

Schedule and Venues

Each one-day session will run from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The training will be held between January 5 and January 31, 2026, in several states and cities, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Faridabad. More locations may be added depending on demand and logistical feasibility.

Participants are advised to check their respective Sahodaya complex announcements for exact dates and venues. Since the programme is being conducted at multiple locations, teachers are encouraged to register early and plan their travel accordingly.

No Fees, But Conditions Apply

CBSE has clarified that there will be no registration or participation fee for this training. However, teachers attending the programme will not be provided with any travel allowance or daily allowance. Schools and participants are expected to manage their own logistics.

Additionally, all attendees are required to bring their own copies of the NCERT Kaushal Bodh Activity Books to the session. These books will serve as the primary reference material during the training, and having them on hand will allow participants to follow along more effectively.

Aligned with National Education Policy Goals

This initiative is widely seen as a step forward in realising the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasises the importance of vocational and practical learning from an early age. By equipping teachers with the right tools and training, CBSE aims to ensure that students are exposed to career-oriented skills well before they reach higher secondary levels.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of schools and millions of students, making education more relevant, engaging, and future-ready. It also reflects a broader shift in Indian education—from rote learning to competency-based, application-oriented instruction.

Schools that have not yet confirmed their participation are encouraged to do so at the earliest. With limited seats at each venue, early registration is advisable to avoid disappointment.
