UPSC Extends CSE 2026 Application Deadline After Portal Outage

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has extended the application window for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 following a technical failure on its official website. The portal, which experienced an unexpected crash on the final submission day, will now accept applications until February 27, 2026.

Portal Crash Disrupts Final-Day Submissions

On the last scheduled date for applications, the commission’s online platform at upsconline.nic.in became temporarily inaccessible. A massive surge in traffic, as candidates from across the country attempted to submit their forms simultaneously, overwhelmed the system. Many applicants found themselves unable to complete the process, prompting the commission to intervene and extend the deadline.

The revised timeline applies equally to the Indian Forest Service Examination 2026, offering relief to aspirants of both prestigious recruitment drives.

933 Vacancies Available Through CSE 2026

The Civil Services Examination 2026 aims to fill a total of 933 positions across various central government departments. The commission had previously advised candidates to avoid waiting until the final day, warning that heavy server load could lead to technical disruptions. Despite this caution, the portal still faltered under the weight of last-minute submissions.

Common Issues Reported by Applicants

Candidates encountered several difficulties during the application process, including:

  • Slow login response times
  • Temporary access failures
  • Inability to complete one-time registration (OTR)
  • Problems uploading required documents
  • Payment processing errors

The online portal serves as the sole channel for submitting applications, completing OTR, uploading photographs and signatures, and paying the requisite fees. Candidates who had not yet completed their OTR were required to register first before selecting the CSE 2026 application link and filling in their personal, academic, and contact details.

Selection Process and Eligibility Criteria

The recruitment procedure unfolds in three distinct stages:

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination
  • Personality Test / Interview

Successful candidates from the interview stage must then undergo document verification and medical examinations. Clearing each phase is mandatory for final selection.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university to be eligible for the examination.

Age Requirements

The age limit for candidates falls between 21 and 32 years. However, applicants belonging to reserved categories are entitled to age relaxation as per government norms.

With the extended deadline now in place, aspirants who faced technical hurdles have another opportunity to complete their applications without the pressure of an imminent cutoff. The commission’s decision reflects its commitment to ensuring that no deserving candidate is left out due to circumstances beyond their control.
