The Second Pradosh Vrat of January 2026: Date and Auspicious Timings

In Hindu tradition, the thirteenth lunar day, or Trayodashi, holds special significance as it is deeply revered by Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu calendar, Pradosh Vrat is observed on the Trayodashi of both Krishna Paksha (waning phase) and Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) each month. This fast is dedicated entirely to Lord Shiva, and it is believed that those who observe it with sincerity see their troubles diminish, gaining mental peace, good health, prosperity, and relief from marital difficulties. Typically, two Pradosh fasts occur every month. However, January 2026 is unique, as it features three such observances. The first one was kept on the very first day of the year. Now, let us explore the details for the second Pradosh Vrat.

When Will the Second Pradosh Vrat Be Observed?

The Trayodashi tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Magha begins on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 8:16 PM. It concludes on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:21 PM. As a result, the Shukra Pradosh Vrat (Friday Pradosh) will be observed on January 16 itself. This fast is particularly significant as it falls on a Friday, which is associated with the planet Venus and brings additional blessings of beauty, harmony, and fortune.

Auspicious Time for Worship (Puja Timing)

The most favorable period for performing the Pradosh Vrat puja is during the Pradosh Kaal, the twilight hour after sunset. It is widely believed that during this sacred window, Lord Shiva joyfully performs the cosmic Tandava dance on Mount Kailash. Devotees observe this fast to align with this divine energy and receive the grace of Shiva and Shakti. On January 16, 2026, the Pradosh Kaal will last from 5:47 PM to 8:29 PM. This specific window is considered the ideal time to conduct the rituals.

Rituals to Follow on Shukra Pradosh

Observing the Shukra Pradosh Vrat with proper rituals is considered highly auspicious. Here are the key practices to follow:

  • Begin with Purification: Take a bath before sunset and wear clean, fresh clothes to prepare for the puja.
  • Perform the Puja: Offer water, milk, bilva (bel) leaves, and white flowers to the Shiva Lingam, either at home or in a temple. White items are especially favored on Fridays as they honor the planet Venus.
  • Chant and Recite: During the worship, chant the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” and recite the Shiva Chalisa to invoke the lord’s blessings.
  • Evening Observances: At dusk, light a lamp and listen to or read the Pradosh Vrat Katha (the story associated with the fast).
  • Maintain Sattvic Conduct: Keep your mind calm and sattvic throughout the day. Avoid anger, negative thoughts, and any harmful actions.
  • Fasting Guidelines: Many devotees observe a full-day fast, consuming only a single meal, typically in the evening after the puja.

Benefits of Observing the Fast

Performing this fast with devotion and discipline is said to bring immense happiness, prosperity, and sweetness to one’s marital life. It is also believed to alleviate mental stress and promote overall well-being. The combination of the Pradosh timing and the Friday (Shukra) influence makes this particular fast especially powerful for attracting harmony and abundance.
