Jyeshtha Purnima 2026: Key Dates and Observances

Jyeshtha Purnima, observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, holds deep spiritual significance. Devotees traditionally engage in fasting, holy bathing, and charitable acts on this day. These practices are believed to cleanse past sins and accumulate merit. Depending on the lunar calendar, the fast, bath, and charity may occur on the same day or be spread across two days, based on the moonrise time. Evening rituals include worshipping Lord Satyanarayan, offering prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, and presenting an arghya (water offering) to the moon god.

Exact Date for Jyeshtha Purnima 2026

According to the Vedic calendar, the Jyeshtha Purnima tithi begins on June 29, 2026, at 3:06 AM and concludes on June 30, 2026, at 5:26 AM. Based on the sunrise rule (Udayatithi), the fast will be observed on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Fasting, Bathing, and Charity on the Same Day

This year, both sunrise and moonrise occur within the same tithi period. As a result, all three key observances—fasting, holy bathing, and giving donations—will be completed on June 29, 2026, without any split schedule.

Auspicious Yogas and Nakshatra

Two favorable yogas align on this Jyeshtha Purnima. The Shukla Yoga will prevail during the morning hours, remaining active until 2:26 PM. Following this, the Brahma Yoga begins. Additionally, the Moola Nakshatra starts in the early morning and lasts until 4:03 AM on June 30, 2026.

Key Auspicious Timings (Muhurat)

The Brahma Muhurat, considered ideal for holy bathing, runs from 4:06 AM to 4:46 AM. The Abhijit Muhurat, favorable for general auspicious activities, occurs from 11:57 AM to 12:52 PM.

For worship, the Amrit-Sarvottam Muhurat spans from 5:26 AM to 7:11 AM, while the Shubh-Uttam period lasts from 8:55 AM to 10:40 AM. Evening prayers to Goddess Lakshmi are best performed during the Pradosh Kaal, after sunset, from 7:23 PM to 8:38 PM.

Moonrise and Moonset Timings

On June 29, the moon will rise at 7:16 PM and set at 5:15 AM the following morning, June 30. Offering arghya to the moon during the full moon night is considered especially meritorious.

Bhadra Kaal (Inauspicious Period)

The Bhadra period begins at 5:26 AM and lasts until 4:16 PM on June 29. During this time, Bhadra resides in the underworld (Patal Loka). While Bhadra Kaal is generally avoided for major ceremonies, chanting mantras and performing puja are permitted.

Spiritual Importance of Jyeshtha Purnima

Observing a fast and worshipping Lord Satyanarayan on this day is said to bring peace and harmony to the household. Evening devotion to Goddess Lakshmi is believed to enhance wealth and prosperity. Offering water to the moon god is thought to calm the mind and strengthen emotional resilience.
