Char Dham Yatra 2026: Complete Guide to Online and Offline Registration

The much-awaited Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand began on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, 19 April 2026. On this special occasion, the doors of Yamunotri Dham and Gangotri Dham were opened for devotees, sparking a wave of enthusiasm among pilgrims. Every year, millions of devotees embark on this spiritual journey to experience peace and faith at the four sacred shrines.

This year, the government has implemented several important measures to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage, with registration being a mandatory requirement. Before setting out on the journey, every pilgrim must complete the registration process. This helps authorities manage crowd control and enhance safety. If you plan to be part of this sacred journey, understanding the registration procedure is essential.

Why Is Registration Mandatory?

The government has made registration compulsory to improve pilgrim safety, manage the large crowds, and provide better emergency assistance. This system ensures that help can reach you quickly in case of any difficulty during the journey. It also allows authorities to track the number of pilgrims at each site, preventing overcrowding and ensuring a more organized experience for everyone.

Online Registration Process

Before heading to the Char Dham Yatra, online registration is a must. To begin, visit the official registration portal and click on the Register or Login option to create your account.

During registration, you need to fill in details such as your name, address, mobile number, email ID, and identity-related information. After submitting these details, an OTP is sent to your mobile number and email for verification.

Once logged in, you must provide the names and ages of all individuals traveling with you. Next, select your preferred travel dates and specify which of the four dhams you plan to visit.

You will then need to upload a scanned copy of a valid government-issued identity document. After completing the entire process, a Unique Registration Number (URN) is sent to your mobile phone. It is crucial to download the registration certificate using this URN and carry it with you throughout the pilgrimage.

Offline Registration Process

If you prefer not to register online, offline options are also available. Dedicated registration counters have been set up in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Sonprayag, and Barkot where you can complete the process in person.

At these counters, photometric or biometric registration is carried out. Your photograph and necessary details are recorded on the spot. Since the crowd is heavy during the pilgrimage season, it is advisable to arrive at these counters well in advance to avoid long queues and delays.

Required Documents for Registration

Carrying a valid identity document is mandatory for the Char Dham Yatra. Acceptable documents include Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, and driving license.

For online registration, you need to upload scanned copies of these documents. For offline registration, you must present the original documents at the counter for verification.

Throughout the journey, always keep your identity proof handy. This will help you avoid any inconvenience during security checks or if you need assistance at any point during the pilgrimage.

Tips for a Smooth Registration Experience

Start the registration process well before your planned travel dates, as slots can fill up quickly during peak season. Double-check all the information you enter to avoid errors that could cause issues later. Keep digital and physical copies of your registration certificate and identity documents in separate bags as a precaution. If traveling in a group, ensure that each member completes their own registration or is added to a single application correctly.

The Char Dham Yatra is a deeply spiritual experience that draws lakhs of pilgrims every year. By completing your registration on time and carrying the necessary documents, you can focus on the divine journey ahead without any administrative worries. Whether you choose the online or offline method, the key is to plan ahead and follow the guidelines carefully.
