Foreign Delegates at AI Impact Summit 2026 Get Access to a New UPI Service
At the AI Impact Summit 2026, currently taking place in New Delhi from February 16 to 20, international participants from over 40 countries are being offered a groundbreaking digital payment solution. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced the UPI One World Wallet specifically for visitors attending the summit. This service allows foreign delegates to make UPI payments across India without needing a local mobile number or a domestic bank account.
How the UPI One World Wallet Works
The UPI One World Wallet is a prepaid digital wallet designed for international tourists and non-resident Indians visiting the country. It enables users to conduct transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) without the requirement of an Indian bank account or phone number. Managed by NPCI, this wallet was initially launched at airports and key locations during major events like the G20 summit, and it is now being extended to the AI Impact Summit attendees.
The wallet is linked to the user’s international mobile number and can be loaded with funds using foreign currency or an international card. It operates as an authorized Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) issued through approved providers. Delegates can obtain the wallet at the NPCI pavilion located in Hall 14, Stall 14.16 at Bharat Mandapam, or at the New Delhi international airport.
Step-by-Step Setup Process
To start using the service, delegates need to follow a straightforward registration process:
- Download the CheqUPI app, developed by Transcorp.
- Submit passport and visa details for verification.
- Complete a selfie-based authentication step.
- Set a personal UPI PIN for secure transactions.
Once approved, users receive a unique UPI ID. They can then add money to the wallet using an international debit or credit card. Each transaction is capped at 25,000 rupees, while the total monthly limit stands at 50,000 rupees. Visitors are allowed to load the wallet a maximum of two times per month.
Seamless Payments Across India
With the wallet active, travelers can scan any UPI QR code at shops, restaurants, markets, or other venues across India to make instant payments. This eliminates the need to carry cash or exchange foreign currency, offering a convenient and cashless experience. According to NPCI, any remaining balance in the wallet can be transferred back to the original payment source in compliance with foreign exchange regulations.
The Growing Popularity of UPI
UPI continues to see exponential growth as a digital payment system. In January 2026 alone, the platform processed 21.70 billion transactions, with a total value of 28.33 lakh crore rupees (approximately 312 billion USD). This reflects the widespread adoption of India’s homegrown payment infrastructure.
NPCI, established by the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks’ Association, oversees the country’s retail payment and settlement systems. Beyond UPI, its key products include RuPay, IMPS, NACH, and AePS.
A Major Step for Digital Inclusion
This initiative marks a significant move toward integrating foreign visitors into India’s fast and secure digital payment ecosystem. By offering the UPI One World Wallet at the AI Impact Summit 2026, NPCI is not only showcasing India’s technological prowess but also enabling international delegates to explore the country’s culture, cuisine, and markets with ease. The service underscores the strength of the “Made in India” digital framework, making transactions simple and safe for global travelers.
