HMD Vibe 2 5G Goes on Sale with Indian AI and a Massive Battery
HMD Global has officially launched sales of its latest budget-friendly 5G smartphone, the HMD Vibe 2, in India. This new model is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, bringing a fresh design, a large battery, and a notable focus on local artificial intelligence. The most talked-about feature is the pre-installed Sarvam Indus AI app, which is capable of understanding and interacting in 22 Indian languages. Here is a detailed look at what the phone offers and where you can get it.
Design Gets a Major Overhaul
The HMD Vibe 2 5G sports a completely redesigned look compared to the original Vibe. The rear camera module now stretches across the full width of the device, featuring two distinct circular cutouts for the sensors. A glossy, rectangular panel at the bottom adds a unique visual flair. The phone is available in three attractive color options: Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue, and Peach Pink.
The device features a flat frame with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking. As expected in the budget segment, the back panel and frame are made of plastic, which helps keep the weight down. A welcome inclusion is the 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature still appreciated by many users. For basic protection against dust and light water splashes, the phone carries an IP64 rating.
Pre-Installed Indigenous AI
The standout feature of the HMD Vibe 2 is the Sarvam Indus application. This AI-powered tool is pre-loaded on the device and allows users to converse in 22 different Indian languages. According to the company, the app runs on the Sarvam-105B model, which was introduced earlier this year. A key selling point is the company’s assurance that all data processed by this app will be stored securely within India, addressing privacy concerns. Additionally, the phone comes with the Sanchar Saathi app, though users have the option to skip its installation during the initial setup process.
Display and Performance Specifications
The HMD Vibe 2 features a large 6.7-inch HD+ LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. To ensure smooth scrolling and animations, the screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Unisoc T8200 5G processor, which is built on a 6-nanometer process for better power efficiency. This is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM for handling everyday multitasking. For storage, the device offers 128GB of internal space, providing ample room for apps, photos, and videos.
Camera, Battery, and Software
For photography, the HMD Vibe 2 is equipped with a 50-megapixel primary camera on the back. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
Battery life is a major highlight, with the phone packing a substantial 6,000mAh cell. This large capacity promises extended usage on a single charge. It supports 18-watt fast charging, and conveniently, the required 18-watt charger is included in the box.
The smartphone runs on the latest Android 16 operating system out of the box. HMD has committed to providing quarterly security updates for two years, ensuring the device remains secure over time.
