NTA Extends Photo Verification Deadline for JEE Main 2026 Applicants

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important update for candidates preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026. This advisory specifically addresses applicants whose uploaded photographs do not match the details on their identification documents. For those affected, the agency has extended the photo verification deadline to January 15, providing additional time to complete the necessary corrections.

What Candidates Need to Do

According to the official notice released by the NTA, affected candidates have received a link on their registered email addresses. Through this link, they are required to upload a supporting certificate in PDF format. On the day of the examination, candidates must also carry a printed copy of this certificate to the test center, where it will undergo physical verification by officials.

The requirement applies to non-Aadhaar candidates whose application photos and identity proof show discrepancies. This step ensures that all applicants can be properly identified at the examination venue without unnecessary complications.

Examination Schedule and City Intimation

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 is scheduled to take place between January 21 and January 30. Prior to the examination, candidates will receive their city intimation slips, which indicate the city where their test center is located. These slips will be made available on the official examination website, and candidates can download them using their application number and password.

The NTA has confirmed that JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in two sessions. Registration for the first session was held from October 31 to November 27, 2025. During the application review process, discrepancies were identified between the photographs and identification documents of certain candidates, prompting this corrective measure.

Revised Guidelines for Certificate Verification

Initially, the NTA had instructed candidates to obtain a signed and verified certificate from their school or college principal or headmaster, along with a recent photograph. However, many applicants reported difficulties in reaching these authorities, which led to delays in completing the verification process.

Taking these challenges into account, the NTA has relaxed the rules. Candidates are now permitted to have their certificates verified by a Class-I Gazetted Officer. This category includes officials such as Tehsildars, Revenue Officers, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), and District Collectors. For Indian candidates residing abroad, verification can be completed through a Class-I Gazetted Officer at the Indian embassy in their country of residence.

Important Recommendations for Candidates

The NTA has advised all applicants to complete the required formalities well before the extended deadline. Timely submission of the necessary documents will help avoid any last-minute issues on examination day. Candidates should carefully check their registered email accounts for the verification link and ensure that all uploaded documents are clear and legible.

It is also recommended that candidates keep multiple printed copies of their verification certificate ready, as they will need to present one at the test center. The physical verification process is a mandatory step, and failure to produce the required documentation may affect a candidate’s ability to take the examination.

For those who have not yet received the email link but believe they may be affected, it is advisable to monitor the official website for further updates. The NTA has emphasized the importance of resolving these discrepancies promptly to ensure a smooth examination experience for all candidates.

With the extended deadline now in place, candidates have adequate time to arrange for proper verification and avoid any disruption to their examination plans. The NTA continues to provide clear guidance to help applicants navigate this process efficiently.
