CBSE Launches Helpline and Counselling Support Ahead of Board Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to commence its Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations on February 17. In preparation, the board has rolled out a comprehensive psycho-social counselling initiative designed to help students manage exam-related anxiety and approach their papers with confidence.

Beginning Tuesday, January 6, CBSE activated its tele-counselling service, offering students direct access to trained professionals. This support system will remain operational until June 1, providing a vital resource for learners navigating the pressures of board examinations.

Free Counselling Available Nationwide

Students can reach the toll-free helpline at 1800-11-8004, which operates through an interactive voice response system. The service is available from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Importantly, this facility is completely free of charge and accessible to students across every corner of the country.

The helpline is staffed by a dedicated team of 73 principals, professional counsellors, and psychologists. Of these, 61 experts are based in India, while 12 counsellors and principals are positioned in Nepal, Japan, Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. This international presence ensures that CBSE students studying abroad also receive the guidance they need.

Comprehensive Support Beyond Basic Counselling

The initiative goes beyond simple stress relief. Students can seek advice on effective study techniques, time management, and strategies for maintaining focus during preparation. The counsellors also address frequently asked questions, helping students clarify doubts about examination procedures and expectations.

CBSE has emphasised that the primary objective of this counselling programme is to reduce exam-related tension. By doing so, the board aims to enable students to appear for their theory examinations starting February 17 with a sense of balance, mental clarity, and self-assurance.

Additional Resources for Students and Parents

Alongside the helpline, CBSE has published a collection of resources on its official website. These materials focus on stress management techniques and proven study strategies. The content has been designed to be engaging, concise, and easily digestible for young learners.

The board strongly encourages both students and parents to take full advantage of these support services. By doing so, families can work together to ensure that the examination period passes smoothly and without unnecessary distress.

With board examinations being a significant milestone in a student’s academic journey, this proactive step by CBSE reflects a thoughtful approach to student welfare. The combination of professional counselling, readily available resources, and round-the-clock guidance demonstrates the board’s commitment to fostering not just academic success, but also emotional well-being during this critical period.

Parents are advised to familiarise themselves with the helpline details and resource materials well before the examination dates. Early awareness ensures that help is readily available should any concerns arise closer to or during the examination window.
