GGSIPU Takes Major Step Toward Third Campus in Narela
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has moved significantly closer to establishing its third campus in Delhi. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officially transferred 22.43 acres of land to the university in Narela, marking a pivotal moment in the institution’s expansion roadmap.
The formal handover took place on Saturday under the chairmanship of Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of the university, Vinay Kumar Saxena. This transfer is widely seen as a decisive step in realizing the university’s long-term growth plans and strengthening its presence across the national capital.
Construction to Begin Soon
With the land now in the university’s possession, construction work on the new campus is expected to commence shortly. Once completed, GGSIPU will operate three campuses across Delhi, significantly enhancing its capacity to serve students from the region and beyond.
Padma Shri Professor Dr. Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of GGSIPU, expressed optimism about the development. He noted that acquiring the land brings the university closer to fulfilling its vision for a third campus. According to him, this new facility will not only expand the university’s physical footprint but also function as a dynamic academic ecosystem designed to address emerging national and global demands.
A Hub for Future-Ready Education
The upcoming Narela campus is being envisioned as a state-of-the-art center of learning, with a strong focus on contemporary and high-demand disciplines. The university plans to introduce a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs across several forward-looking fields.
- Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies
- Health sciences and Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH)
- Film production and communication studies
- Agriculture and allied sciences
- Defense and strategic studies
- International relations and management
Some of these new academic offerings have already been launched at the university’s existing campus in Dwarka. The Narela campus will build on this foundation, offering students a modern environment equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Strategic Importance of the Narela Location
Narela, located in the northern part of Delhi, is emerging as a key zone for educational and infrastructural development. The choice of this location aligns with the city’s broader vision of decentralizing academic institutions and promoting balanced regional growth. The new campus is expected to benefit students from various parts of Delhi and neighboring regions, improving access to quality higher education.
The land transfer reflects a coordinated effort between the university and civic authorities to fast-track the project. With all formalities now complete, stakeholders are optimistic about the timeline and the transformative impact this campus will have on the educational landscape of the capital.
