Delhi Startup Festival Grants: Top Student Ventures to Receive Major Funding

The Delhi Startup Festival’s youth-focused segment has emerged as a powerful launchpad for student entrepreneurs, with the city government announcing substantial financial support for innovative young minds. Under this initiative, the top six student-led startups will each receive a grant of ₹10 lakh, while an additional 100 startups will be awarded ₹1 lakh each to help them take their first steps in the business world.

This financial backing is designed to reduce the initial risks that students typically face when transforming their ideas into viable products or services. By providing this early-stage support, the government aims to encourage more students to pursue entrepreneurship as a serious career option.

A Unified Platform for Young Innovators

The festival, organized by Delhi’s Department of Higher and Technical Education, brought together a diverse range of participants at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. The event featured a startup exhibition, pitching sessions, and various ecosystem-building activities that connected students with mentors, investors, and industry experts.

In a significant move, the festival created a common platform for the first time, bringing together participants from:

  • 11 universities across Delhi
  • 12 colleges
  • 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)

This collaborative approach marks a departure from the past when institutions operated in isolation without a shared framework for nurturing student entrepreneurship.

Government Support and Future Plans

The inaugural ceremony was led by the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Jayant Chaudhary. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood were also present at the event, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering innovation among the youth.

Education Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the importance of this unified approach, noting that previously, different institutions worked independently without a common platform. He emphasized that the “campus to market” model has now been properly implemented, enabling student ideas to move seamlessly through mentorship, funding, and market access stages.

Growing Startup Ecosystem in Delhi

The government’s efforts are already showing tangible results. Currently, more than 470 startups are being incubated across Delhi government institutions. Under the recently introduced NEEV curriculum, approximately 5,000 student teams have received financial support of ₹20,000 per team, amounting to a total seed grant of ₹10 crore distributed to government school students.

Looking ahead, the Delhi government is preparing to launch a comprehensive Delhi Startup Policy. This policy proposes a provision of ₹325 crore over the next five years, with an ambitious target of developing 5,000 startups by young Delhiites by the year 2035. This long-term vision reflects the government’s commitment to positioning Delhi as a leading hub for student entrepreneurship and innovation.

The festival represents a significant step toward creating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the capital, where young innovators can access the resources, guidance, and financial support they need to turn their ideas into successful ventures.
