Telangana CM to Attend Harvard Leadership Programme
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has enrolled in an international leadership course at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. The programme, titled “Leadership for the 21st Century,” is scheduled to run from January 25 to January 30 and will bring together participants from more than 20 countries. Upon completion, Reddy will receive a certificate of participation.
Political Backlash Over Timing of Foreign Visit
The decision has sparked sharp political criticism within the state. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has questioned the timing of the Chief Minister’s trip, pointing to a host of unresolved and pressing issues that demand his attention at home. Party leaders argue that stepping away for academic pursuits while governance matters remain pending is inappropriate and reflects misplaced priorities.
Accusations of Inexperience
BRS leaders have further alleged that by attending classes at Harvard, the Chief Minister has indirectly admitted to a lack of administrative expertise. In a pointed comparison, they noted that former Chief Ministers of the state had visited Harvard not as students, but as invited speakers and lecturers. The opposition party claims this distinction underscores a gap in governance experience and leadership readiness.
Repeated Foreign Trips at Public Expense
The opposition has also raised concerns over the frequency of the Chief Minister’s international travels, stating that these visits are being undertaken repeatedly at government expense. According to BRS, none of these trips have yielded tangible benefits such as concrete investment commitments or measurable developmental outcomes for the state. The party contends that such excursions divert attention from core administrative responsibilities and demonstrate a disregard for public interest.
The controversy adds to the mounting political friction in Telangana, with the ruling party yet to respond formally to the allegations. Observers note that the debate is likely to intensify as the Chief Minister’s travel dates approach, with the opposition expected to keep the issue in the public eye.
