NIOS Extends Registration Deadline for BEd Bridge Course Again

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has once again extended the registration deadline for its six-month certificate bridge course in Primary Teacher Education. Candidates now have until 31 January 2026 to submit their applications, offering another opportunity for those who missed the earlier cutoff.

This marks the second extension for the programme. The deadline had previously been moved to 19 January 2026 before being pushed further to the end of the month. The decision comes as a relief for aspiring applicants who were unable to complete their registration within the earlier timeframe.

Purpose and Design of the Bridge Course

The bridge course has been specifically developed for teachers who already hold a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree and wish to continue teaching at the primary level. Its primary objective is to enhance the professional competencies of educators, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the demands of modern classrooms.

The programme has been designed under the supervision of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), operating within the framework of the Ministry of Education. The council will also monitor the implementation and delivery of the course throughout its duration.

Who Must Complete This Course

The bridge course is mandatory for a specific category of teachers. Those who were appointed between 28 June 2018 and 11 August 2023, based solely on their BEd qualification, are required to complete this programme within the stipulated period.

Failure to finish the course within the designated timeframe could result in the cancellation of appointments for these educators. However, the requirement does not apply to candidates seeking fresh appointments or those planning to apply for teaching positions in the future.

Current Registration Statistics

As of the latest update, a substantial number of educators have already registered for the programme. The registration data reveals significant participation from across the teaching community:

  • Total registrations received: 69,235 candidates
  • Fee payments completed: 65,257 candidates
  • Pending fee payments: 3,978 candidates
  • Male teachers registered: 37,350
  • Female teachers registered: 31,879
  • Third gender category: 6 teachers

Step-by-Step Application Process

Eligible teachers who have not yet registered can follow a straightforward process to complete their application. The procedure has been designed to be user-friendly and accessible through the official portal.

Applicants should begin by visiting the dedicated bridge course website. Once on the homepage, they need to locate and select the enrolment option clearly displayed on the screen. It is advisable to read all instructions carefully before proceeding to the next stage.

After reviewing the guidelines, candidates will be directed to a new page where they must enter their basic details accurately. This includes providing correct personal and professional information in the application form. Any errors at this stage could lead to complications later in the process.

The next step involves payment of the prescribed registration fee to complete the enrolment. Once the payment is successfully processed, candidates should download and retain a copy of their registration confirmation slip for future reference.

Applicants also have the option of accessing the application through a direct link provided for the bridge course. Additionally, the official notification document can be downloaded from the website for detailed reference.

The extended deadline provides a final window for eligible teachers to secure their place in this important professional development programme. With the registration process being entirely online, candidates are encouraged to complete their applications well before the 31 January cutoff to avoid any last-minute technical difficulties.
