AI in Education Takes Center Stage at IIT Delhi Roundtable

In a significant move to integrate artificial intelligence into India’s education landscape, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level roundtable discussion at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The gathering brought together founders from ten of the country’s most promising edtech startups, alongside policymakers, academic leaders, and technology entrepreneurs, to explore how AI can transform the learning ecosystem.

The primary focus of the discussion revolved around aligning AI-driven innovations with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Participants examined practical ways to leverage AI for strengthening the nation’s educational framework, ensuring that technological advancements translate into tangible improvements for students across all segments of society.

Technology as a Bridge to Opportunity

Addressing the gathering, Minister Pradhan emphasized that technology serves as a powerful equalizer in education. He highlighted its potential to narrow the gap between those who have access to quality learning resources and those who do not. According to him, AI will play a pivotal role in realizing the broader vision of a developed India by 2047, where every citizen has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

The Minister noted that the initial phase of technology adoption in education primarily focused on expanding access to content. However, he stressed that the next phase must shift attention toward improving learning outcomes. This evolution requires a more sophisticated approach, one that moves beyond simply digitizing materials to actually enhancing how students understand, retain, and apply knowledge.

Personalized Learning Takes Priority

A central theme of the roundtable was the urgent need for AI-powered personalized and adaptive learning models. Minister Pradhan argued that such systems could deliver affordable, equitable, and scalable skill development opportunities. By tailoring educational experiences to individual student needs, AI can make learning significantly more effective, particularly in regions where resources remain scarce.

The discussion underscored that personalized learning is not merely a convenience but a necessity for addressing the diverse challenges faced by students in different parts of the country. From understanding complex concepts at one’s own pace to receiving targeted support in weak areas, AI-driven platforms hold the promise of democratizing quality education like never before.

Innovative Startups Showcase AI Solutions

The roundtable featured participation from a diverse group of edtech companies, each bringing unique AI-based solutions to the table. Participating startups included Arivihan, Fermi AI, Khare AI Classes, Seekho, Speak, SuperKalam, Supernova, Vedantu, ConveGenius, and Virohan. These companies presented their work across multiple educational domains, including K-12 schooling, competitive exam preparation, language acquisition, professional upskilling, and vocational training.

What stood out during the presentations was the commitment of several startups to reaching students in rural and underserved communities. These organizations are leveraging AI to bridge geographical divides, ensuring that a child in a remote village receives learning opportunities comparable to those available in metropolitan cities. This grassroots approach aligns closely with the government’s emphasis on inclusive education.

Shaping Future Policy Directions

According to a senior official from the Ministry of Education, the insights gathered during this roundtable will feed directly into the policy discussions at the upcoming India AI Impact Summit. The recommendations will inform strategies around responsible AI adoption, implementation of safety protocols, and exploring avenues for scaling AI applications across various sectors beyond education.

The timing of this roundtable is particularly significant, coming just ahead of a series of major AI-focused events in the national capital. These gatherings reflect the government’s commitment to positioning India as a global leader in AI innovation while ensuring that the technology serves the greater good.

Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave on the Horizon

Following the roundtable, the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on February 12-13, 2026. This two-day event will bring together policymakers from central and state governments, researchers, and industry experts to deliberate on the strategic role of AI in national development.

Building on this momentum, the India AI Summit is set to follow from February 16-20 in the national capital. The summit is expected to attract some of the most prominent figures in global technology, with anticipated appearances from Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, Sam Altman of OpenAI, Sundar Pichai of Google, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, and Cristiano Amon of Qualcomm. Their participation underscores the international significance of India’s AI ambitions and the growing recognition of the country’s potential as a hub for artificial intelligence innovation.

Collectively, these initiatives signal a clear direction: India is moving decisively toward an education system where artificial intelligence enhances learning experiences, empowers educators, and creates pathways for students to thrive in an increasingly digital world. The conversations initiated at IIT Delhi represent more than just discussions; they lay the groundwork for actionable policies that will shape the future of education for millions of learners across the nation.
