Maharashtra Board Exam Irregularities: Six Invigilators Face Action After Students Caught Cheating in Jalna

Authorities in Maharashtra’s Jalna district have initiated disciplinary proceedings against six teachers who were serving as invigilators during a Class 12 board examination. The action follows an incident where students were caught cheating during the English paper, prompting officials to hold the supervising staff accountable for negligence in their duties.

Incident Details and Location

The incident came to light on Tuesday during the English examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The examination was underway at several centres in the Ambad tehsil when a flying squad conducted a surprise inspection. During this unannounced check, multiple students were found engaged in unfair practices.

According to officials, the flying squad carried out sudden inspections at examination centres in Rohilagarh, Ankushnagar, and Shahgarh. At these locations, several candidates were caught copying, and appropriate action was taken against the students as per established regulations.

Action Against Supervising Teachers

The six teachers facing action belong to different educational institutions across the district. Secondary Education Officer Balu Kharat has issued directives to the respective schools and institutions to suspend these teachers on account of negligence during examination duty. The officials have made it clear that such lapses will be treated with seriousness to uphold the integrity of the examination process.

Negligence Identified as Primary Cause

The education department has identified inadequate supervision as the main factor that enabled students to resort to cheating. The officials believe that proper monitoring during the examination could have prevented the incident entirely. This lack of vigilance on the part of the invigilators has been cited as the primary reason behind the disciplinary action.

Stricter Monitoring Measures Ahead

In the wake of this incident, discussions are underway to further tighten the surveillance arrangements at examination centres. The education department is considering enhanced measures to prevent any such irregularities in upcoming examinations. Officials have emphasised that maintaining the fairness and credibility of board examinations remains a top priority, and any compromise on this front will invite strict consequences.

The development serves as a reminder to all examination staff about their responsibilities in ensuring a fair testing environment. With board examinations being a crucial milestone in students’ academic journey, authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the process remains transparent and free from malpractices. The swift action against the negligent invigilators also sends a clear message about the department’s zero-tolerance approach towards any form of examination malpractice.
