Hebrew University Applauds PM Modi’s Stand, Eyes Deeper Academic Ties

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has expressed heartfelt appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address at the Israeli Parliament, describing his remarks as both courageous and deeply resonant. The institution voiced optimism that the diplomatic momentum generated by the visit could now pave the way for a new era of educational collaboration between India and Israel.

A Message of Solidarity and Strength

During his address at the Knesset, PM Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism. His words drew thunderous applause from Israeli lawmakers as he affirmed India’s steadfast support for Israel in times of hardship. “We understand your pain. We stand with you in your sorrow. India will remain firmly by Israel’s side, now and in the future,” he stated.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that no cause could ever justify the killing of innocent civilians, nor could any rationale legitimize terrorism in any form. His strong stance resonated widely, reinforcing the deep mutual understanding between the two nations.

Strengthening Academic Bonds with India

The university’s gratitude comes on the heels of a significant academic milestone. Just last week, the Hebrew University signed a memorandum of understanding with Nalanda University, marking a major step forward in bilateral educational cooperation. A delegation led by Professor Guy Harpaz, Vice President for International Affairs at the Hebrew University, recently visited India to explore opportunities for collaboration with several academic institutions across the country.

The university noted that the growing partnership between the two nations is clearly reflected in the academic sphere. “The deep partnership between our countries is mirrored in our educational engagements,” the institution remarked.

Fostering Joint Research and Student Exchange

Professor Harpaz, alongside Professor Aviator Shulman from the departments of Asian Studies and Comparative Religion, spearheaded discussions aimed at building a robust framework for this strategic alliance. The university highlighted that by bringing together two world-class centers of learning, Professor Shulman and his team are actively promoting joint research initiatives, integrated teaching programs, and student exchange opportunities that transcend geographical boundaries.

“At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, we transform diplomatic achievements into meaningful academic partnerships that shape the shared future of both nations,” the university stated. “We do not merely study international relations; we build upon them as a foundation for scientific excellence across generations.”

Notably, the university counts Albert Einstein among its founding members, a legacy that continues to inspire its commitment to innovation and global cooperation. The institution’s leadership believes that the recent diplomatic exchanges will further catalyze collaborative efforts, benefiting students and researchers from both countries for years to come.
