Kerala SSLC Examinations Set to Begin March 5
Kerala’s Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations are scheduled to commence on March 5, with a substantial number of students preparing to take the tests across the state and beyond. According to an official announcement made on Monday, a total of 4,17,497 candidates will appear for the examinations at 3,031 designated centers. The examination schedule extends through March 30, marking the conclusion of this academic year’s assessment cycle.
Registration Details Across Regions
The General Education Minister provided detailed insights into the registration figures during a press conference. Beyond the students registered within Kerala, the examination will also accommodate candidates from other regions. Specifically, 633 students have enrolled at seven centers located in the Gulf region, while 386 students will take their examinations at nine centers in Lakshadweep. These figures highlight the extensive reach of Kerala’s education system and its commitment to serving students across various geographical locations.
Comprehensive Preparations Completed
Officials have confirmed that all necessary arrangements for the examination cycle are now fully in place. The distribution of answer booklets required for the SSLC, higher secondary, and vocational higher secondary examinations has been finalized this week. These materials have been delivered to schools operating under the jurisdiction of 41 district education offices throughout the state.
Question papers have also reached all 41 district offices and, following the sorting process, have been securely stored in bank lockers and treasury facilities to ensure their safety and integrity until the examination dates. This meticulous approach to handling examination materials underscores the commitment to maintaining the credibility and smooth conduct of the assessment process.
Personnel and Supervision Arrangements
Appointments for chief superintendents and deputy chief superintendents have been completed for the SSLC examinations. Approximately 26,000 teachers across the state will be engaged in examination supervision duties, ensuring that all centers operate efficiently and in accordance with established protocols.
Regarding the evaluation process, the minister outlined that applications have been invited for the appointment of around 950 additional chief examiners and 9,000 examiners who will work across 72 evaluation camps. Appointment letters are scheduled to be issued during the second week of March, with evaluation camps operating from April 7 through April 28.
Results Timeline and Higher Secondary Admissions
Students and parents can anticipate the SSLC results to be announced by the third week of May 2026. Following the declaration of results, online applications for admission to Plus One courses for the 2026-27 academic year will be accepted starting the very next day.
The minister assured that, consistent with previous years, an adequate number of seats will be available to accommodate all students who successfully pass the SSLC examinations. This commitment ensures that every qualifying student will have access to higher education opportunities without unnecessary obstacles.
The admission process will primarily be conducted through three main allotment rounds, after which Plus One classes will commence. Following these main phases, fresh applications will be invited to fill any remaining vacancies through supplementary allotment procedures. This systematic approach is designed to complete the entire admission process in a timely and efficient manner.
Higher Secondary Examination Overview
In addition to the SSLC examinations, the state is also preparing for the higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examinations. First-year higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examinations will begin on March 5, while second-year examinations are scheduled to start on March 6.
Current registration data indicates that 4,11,025 students will appear for the first-year higher secondary examination. Additionally, 3,41,222 students have registered for the first-year improvement examination. The second-year higher secondary examination will see participation from 4,52,437 students.
Examination Centers and Staffing
A total of 1,984 examination centers have been established for the higher secondary examinations, combining both first and second-year tests. Of these, 1,966 centers are located within Kerala, seven in the Gulf region, nine in Lakshadweep, and two in Mahe. This extensive network of centers ensures that students have convenient access to examination facilities regardless of their location.
The minister further noted that results for the higher secondary examinations are expected to be announced on May 22. For the vocational higher secondary stream, 26,829 first-year students and 26,826 regular second-year students have registered for the examinations.
The vocational stream will operate 389 examination centers and eight evaluation camps. Approximately 3,700 teachers will be deployed for examination duties in this stream. Evaluation camps for the vocational stream are set to commence on April 6, immediately following the conclusion of the theoretical examinations, ensuring a prompt and efficient assessment process.
