CBSE Postpones Class 12 Board Exams in Seven West Asian Countries

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the postponement of Class 12 board examinations scheduled for March 9, 10, and 11, 2026, across seven countries in West Asia. The decision, communicated through an official circular issued on March 7, 2026, affects students enrolled in CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Reason Behind the Postponement

The board stated that the decision was made after a thorough review of the prevailing circumstances in these regions. While the circular does not elaborate on specific details, it is evident that the current situation in the area has not improved sufficiently to allow examinations to proceed as planned. The safety and well-being of students remain the board’s foremost priority.

Which Examinations Are Affected?

The postponement applies specifically to Class 12 board examinations that were scheduled to take place on the following dates:

  • Monday, March 9, 2026
  • Tuesday, March 10, 2026
  • Wednesday, March 11, 2026

Students appearing for papers on these dates will now have to wait for the announcement of revised schedules. The board has assured that fresh dates will be communicated in due course.

Review Meeting Scheduled for March 10

In a significant development, CBSE has indicated that it will conduct another review of the situation on March 10, 2026. Following this assessment, the board will make a determination regarding examinations scheduled from March 12 onward. This means that while only the March 9-11 papers have been postponed for now, a final call on subsequent examinations will depend on how conditions evolve over the coming days.

Official Communication and Guidance for Students

The circular was issued under the signature of Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Examination Controller at CBSE. The board has advised students to maintain regular contact with their respective schools for updates and to rely exclusively on official announcements. Any new information or revised examination timetables will be disseminated through the schools rather than through unofficial channels.

Students and parents across the affected regions are now awaiting further clarity on the revised examination schedule. The board’s decision reflects an ongoing effort to balance academic requirements with the need to ensure a safe environment for all examinees.

As the situation develops, CBSE has committed to keeping all stakeholders informed through appropriate channels. Schools in the affected countries are expected to relay updates to students as soon as they become available.

This is not the first time that examinations in the Middle East region have faced disruption due to external circumstances. The board has previously demonstrated its willingness to adjust schedules when necessary, prioritizing student welfare above all other considerations.

For now, students in the seven affected countries should focus on continued preparation while awaiting the announcement of new examination dates. The board’s decision to stagger its review process indicates a cautious, measured approach to handling the situation, with student interests at the core of every consideration.
