Bihar Board Matric Results 2026: A Detailed Look at This Year’s Performance

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has officially released the results for the Class 10 (Matric) annual examinations. This year, the overall pass percentage has seen a slight dip compared to the previous cycle. With a total of 15,10,928 students appearing for the exams, the board has declared 12,35,743 candidates as successful, bringing the overall success rate to 81.79%.

Pass Percentage Witnesses a Marginal Decline

The Matriculation examinations for 2026 were conducted across 1,699 examination centres in the state, running from February 17 to February 25, 2026. The results, which were announced on March 29, reveal a minor decrease in the success rate. In the previous year (2025), the pass percentage stood at 82.11%. This year’s figure of 81.79% represents a drop of 0.32 percentage points. While the decline is small, it marks a shift from the upward trend seen in recent years.

Breaking Down the 2026 Statistics

A closer look at the numbers provides a clearer picture of this year’s academic performance. The examination saw participation from a significant number of students, with female candidates outnumbering their male counterparts.

Key Figures for 2026

  • Total Candidates: 15,10,928 (7,26,057 boys and 7,84,871 girls)
  • Total Passed: 12,35,743
  • Overall Pass Percentage: 81.79%
  • Boys Passed: 6,01,390 (Pass Percentage: 82.84%)
  • Girls Passed: 6,34,353 (Pass Percentage: 80.86%)

Interestingly, while the absolute number of girls who passed is higher than boys, the pass percentage tells a different story. Boys have outperformed girls in terms of success rate, achieving 82.84% compared to the girls’ 80.86%.

Performance by Grade Categories

The distribution of students across different grade categories is also noteworthy. The largest group of successful candidates secured a Second Division, followed closely by those in the First Division.

  • First Division: 4,43,723 students
  • Second Division: 4,75,511 students
  • Third Division: 3,03,103 students

Top Performers and the Merit List

The board has also announced the list of top-ranking students. This year, the coveted top position is shared by two candidates who have set a high benchmark with their scores.

Pushpanjali Kumari and Sabrin Parveen have jointly secured the first rank, achieving an impressive 492 marks out of 500, which translates to a score of 98.4%. Their achievement highlights the high level of competition and academic excellence among the candidates.

In total, the Top-10 merit list features 139 students, a significant increase from the 123 students who made it to the list last year. This expansion suggests a more competitive field with several students achieving near-perfect scores.

Comparative Analysis: 2026 vs. 2025

To understand the current results better, it is essential to compare them with the previous year’s data. The examination pattern and difficulty level often influence these year-on-year changes.

Year-on-Year Comparison

  • Result Declaration Date: Both years saw results announced on March 29.
  • Total Candidates: A decrease from 15,58,077 in 2025 to 15,10,928 in 2026.
  • Total Passed: A decrease from 12,79,294 in 2025 to 12,35,743 in 2026.
  • Overall Pass Percentage: A decrease from 82.11% in 2025 to 81.79% in 2026.
  • Failed Students: Estimated at 2,75,185 in 2026, compared to 2,78,783 in 2025.

The comparison shows that while the number of students appearing for the exam dropped, the pass percentage also saw a slight reduction. In 2025, the top rank was secured by three students—Sakshi Kumari, Anshu Kumari, and Ranjan Verma—who all scored 489 marks (97.80%). This year’s toppers have surpassed that score, indicating a rise in the maximum marks achieved.

Five-Year Performance Trend

Looking at the broader picture, the BSEB Class 10 results have shown fluctuating trends over the past five years. This historical data provides context for this year’s performance.

Pass Percentage Over the Years

  • 2026: 81.79% (Results on March 29)
  • 2025: 82.11% (Results on March 29)
  • 2024: 82.91% (Results on March 31)
  • 2023: 81.04% (Results on March 31)
  • 2022: 79.88% (Results on March 31)

The data reveals that after a dip in 2022, the pass percentage had been on a steady rise for two consecutive years, peaking in 2024. However, the trend has reversed slightly in the last two years, with a gradual decline being observed. The 2026 figures, while lower than the immediate past two years, are still higher than the results from 2022 and 2023.

Steps to Access the BSEB Class 10 Results
