UGC Opens Data Submission Window for QS World University Rankings 2027
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has called upon all higher education institutions (HEIs) across India to submit their data for the QS World University Rankings 2027. The submission window is now active, with a firm deadline of April 12, 2026.
Emphasis on Accurate and Comprehensive Data
UGC has directed institutions to provide complete and precise information, including sustainability-related metrics. The commission stressed that thorough and correct data submission is essential to present Indian institutions favorably on the global stage and strengthen their standing in international rankings.
Authorities have also underscored the importance of adhering strictly to the timeline, noting that the submitted data will play a decisive role in determining how Indian universities are positioned and perceived worldwide.
Indian Institutions Shine in Recent QS Rankings
The latest QS rankings released for Asia and subject-specific categories have showcased impressive performances by several Indian institutions. In the engineering and technology domain, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi emerged as the country’s top-ranked institution, securing the 36th position globally. It was followed closely by IIT Bombay at 42nd and IIT Madras at 62nd. IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur also made their mark, occupying the 64th and 84th spots, respectively.
Performance Across Arts, Sciences, and Other Disciplines
In the arts and humanities category, the University of Delhi ranked 231st, while Jawaharlal Nehru University secured the 260th position. O.P. Jindal Global University also featured in this segment, landing at 323rd place.
For life sciences and medicine, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) achieved a commendable 217th rank. In the natural sciences, IIT Bombay stood at 78th, IIT Delhi at 91st, and the Indian Institute of Science at 125th.
Strong Showing in Social Sciences and Management
The social sciences and management category witnessed notable Indian representation as well. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad led the domestic pack with a 66th-place finish. IIT Delhi followed at 84th, IIT Bombay at 105th, the University of Delhi at 177th, and IIM Calcutta at 178th.
UGC has urged all institutions to submit their data well within the stipulated timeframe, emphasizing that timely and accurate participation will help reinforce India’s growing academic footprint across the globe.
