Delhi Government Opens Scholarship Applications for SC, ST, and OBC Students

The Delhi government has officially opened the application window for its 2025-26 scholarship programs, specifically designed for students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the e-district portal until April 30, 2026, as per the official notification. This initiative aims to empower academically talented students from economically weaker backgrounds by providing them with the financial support needed to pursue their educational goals without unnecessary obstacles.

Comprehensive Coverage from School to University Level

The government is currently operating five state-funded schemes alongside several centrally sponsored programs, ensuring that students at every stage of their academic journey receive appropriate assistance. From primary school through college and university education, the scholarships are structured to alleviate the financial burden on families.

For students enrolled in classes 1 through 12, the scheme covers tuition fees and other mandatory charges. To qualify for this benefit, the family’s annual income must not exceed ₹3 lakh, and students must meet the prescribed attendance requirements and academic standards set by the department.

Merit-Based Scholarships for Higher Education

Students pursuing professional, technical, or advanced degree programs can take advantage of a merit-based scholarship scheme specifically designed for higher education. Under this program, eligible students receive financial assistance ranging from ₹8,000 to ₹24,000 per year. Applicants must have secured at least 60% marks in their previous academic year to be considered. The scholarship amount varies depending on whether the student resides in a hostel or attends as a day scholar, with different allocations for each category.

Special Recognition for Top Achievers

In a bid to celebrate and encourage exceptional performance, the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Topper Award has been introduced. Under this initiative, the top-performing SC, ST, and OBC student in each subject across universities will receive a cash prize of ₹25,000. This recognition serves as both an incentive and a reward for students who demonstrate outstanding academic commitment and excellence in their chosen fields of study.

Additional Schemes and Financial Benefits

Beyond the core scholarship offerings, the Delhi government has introduced several supplementary programs to broaden the reach of its educational support. The Chief Minister Vidhyarthi Pratibha Yojana provides annual financial assistance of ₹5,000 to students in classes 9 and 10, while those in classes 11 and 12 receive ₹10,000 per year.

Furthermore, SC category students aspiring to pursue Master’s or PhD programs abroad will receive substantial financial backing, with support amounts reaching up to ₹20 lakh. This significant investment underscores the government’s commitment to fostering global educational opportunities for students from marginalized communities.

A Step Toward Educational Equity

This comprehensive scholarship initiative reflects the Delhi government’s dedication to creating a level playing field in education. By addressing the financial barriers that often prevent talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds from realizing their full potential, these programs aim to foster a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape. Students are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria carefully and complete their applications before the April 30 deadline to ensure they do not miss out on these valuable opportunities.
