CUET UG 2026: Students Voice Concerns Over Exam Centre Allocations

With the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2026 scheduled to commence on May 11, candidates across India and abroad are preparing for one of the most competitive university entrance examinations in the country. The exam will continue until May 31, 2026. However, as the test dates approach, a growing number of aspirants have expressed dissatisfaction with the allocation of examination centres, citing significant logistical challenges.

The Core Issue: Distance and Inconvenience

A substantial number of students have reported receiving exam centre assignments that are far removed from their preferred cities. For many, this means travelling long distances, arranging accommodation, and managing additional expenses—all of which add unnecessary stress during an already demanding period. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the examination, has acknowledged receiving numerous complaints from affected candidates.

Why Are Centres Being Allotted Elsewhere?

According to the testing agency, the primary reason behind these unexpected allocations is the uneven distribution of candidates across different cities. Several urban centres have witnessed an exceptionally high volume of registrations, far exceeding the available computer-based test (CBT) infrastructure. With a limited number of test centres in these high-demand locations, it has become practically impossible to accommodate every candidate in their city of choice.

NTA’s Response: Assurance and Patience

In an official statement, the NTA has reassured students that their concerns are being taken seriously. The agency has confirmed that a thorough review of all complaints is currently underway. Officials have urged candidates to remain patient while the process is being carried out, promising that a fresh update regarding centre allocations will be released shortly.

The NTA also took to social media to directly address aspirants, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the current allotment system. The agency explained that the situation has arisen primarily due to the dense concentration of applicants in select cities, where the number of available CBT centres could not keep pace with demand.

What Students Should Expect Next

While no immediate solution has been announced, the NTA has indicated that it is actively exploring ways to address the grievances. Candidates who have raised objections are advised to monitor official channels for further announcements. The agency has emphasised that every effort will be made to minimise difficulties for students, though specific details regarding possible reassignments or adjustments have not yet been disclosed.

Important Update for Candidates Requiring Scribes

In a separate but equally important development, the NTA has opened the facility for candidates belonging to the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category to submit details of their scribes (writers) for the upcoming examination. This provision is designed to ensure that all candidates have equal opportunities to perform to the best of their abilities.

Deadline and Submission Guidelines

Students who intend to avail themselves of a scribe during the examination must complete and submit their details before the designated deadline. The final date for submission is set for May 5, up to 11:50 PM. It is crucial to note that applications received after this time will not be considered under any circumstances. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to complete this process well in advance to avoid any last-minute complications.

As the examination dates draw closer, candidates are encouraged to stay informed through official notifications and to plan their travel and accommodation arrangements accordingly. While the centre allocation issue has caused understandable frustration, the NTA’s commitment to reviewing complaints offers a glimmer of hope for those affected. In the meantime, all aspirants should focus on their preparation and remain adaptable to the circumstances at hand.
