Himachal Board Class 12 Results Show Remarkable Improvement

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has officially released the Class 12 examination results for 2026, revealing a substantial improvement in student performance compared to the previous year. The overall pass percentage has climbed to an impressive 92.02%, marking a significant jump of 8.86 percentage points from the 83.16% recorded in 2025.

Key Highlights of the 2026 Results

This year’s examination witnessed the participation of 81,417 students across the state. Of these, 74,637 candidates successfully cleared the exams, while 308 students were marked as absent. The remaining 3,352 students did not pass, and 3,071 students received compartment status, allowing them an opportunity to improve their scores in specific subjects.

The steady rise in the pass percentage reflects the collective efforts of students, teachers, and the education department in enhancing academic standards across Himachal Pradesh.

Gender-Wise Performance Breakdown

When examining results by gender, female students have once again outperformed their male counterparts. Out of 40,281 girls who appeared for the examination, 37,749 emerged successful, achieving a pass percentage of approximately 93.7%. Meanwhile, 36,888 boys cleared the exams out of 40,828 who appeared, securing a pass rate of around 90.4%.

This consistent trend of female students outperforming males highlights the growing academic dedication among girls in the state.

Category-Wise Success Rates

The results also show encouraging figures across different social categories. Students from the General category recorded 37,576 successes out of 40,462 candidates. The Scheduled Caste (SC) category saw 20,095 students passing out of 22,186 who appeared, while the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category achieved 4,520 successes from 5,023 candidates. Additionally, 12,446 students from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category cleared the examination out of 13,438 who participated.

Sub-Category Analysis

A deeper look into the sub-category data reveals strong performances across all segments. Among General category girls, 18,808 out of 19,946 passed, while General category boys recorded 18,768 successes from 20,516 candidates. In the SC category, 10,446 girls and 9,649 boys were successful. The ST category saw 2,267 girls and 2,253 boys clearing the exams, while OBC girls achieved 6,228 successes and other male categories recorded 6,218 passes.

Comparison with the 2025 Results

The 2025 examination season had concluded with a pass percentage of 83.16%. That year, the results were announced jointly by the Kangra Deputy Commissioner, board chairman Hemraj Bairwa, and board secretary Dr. Vishal Sharma. The top-10 merit list in 2025 featured 75 students, comprising 61 girls and 14 boys, with Mehak from Una district securing the first position statewide.

The substantial 8.86% increase in the pass percentage this year demonstrates a positive trajectory in the state’s higher secondary education system. Board officials have attributed this improvement to enhanced teaching methodologies, better examination preparation among students, and the continued dedication of educators throughout the academic year.

Students who appeared for the examinations can access their results through the official HPBOSE website using their roll numbers. The board has also made provisions for students who wish to apply for re-evaluation or obtain duplicate mark sheets, with detailed procedures available on the official portal.

The announcement of these results brings clarity to thousands of students planning their next academic steps, whether pursuing higher education, professional courses, or entering the workforce. With such encouraging outcomes, the future looks promising for the young learners of Himachal Pradesh.
