CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Kendriya Vidyalaya Leads Institutional Performance

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the Class 12 board examination results for 2026. This year’s institutional performance analysis reveals that Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) has once again secured the top position with an impressive pass percentage of 98.55%. Close on its heels, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) achieved the second spot with a marginal difference, recording a pass rate of 98.47%.

Complete Breakdown of Institutional Pass Percentages

When examining the performance across different categories of schools, a clear hierarchy emerges. The government-run institutions have demonstrated commendable results, while private and other categories have shown varying levels of success. Here is the detailed comparison:

  • Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV): 98.55% pass rate
  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV): 98.47% pass rate
  • Government Schools: 89.55% pass rate
  • Government-Aided Institutions: 86.07% pass rate
  • EMRS Schools: 85.55% pass rate
  • Independent (Private) Schools: 84.22% pass rate

The data highlights the consistent excellence of centrally-run educational institutions. Both KV and JNV have maintained their reputation for delivering outstanding academic outcomes, significantly outperforming other categories of schools across the country.

Overall Examination Statistics for 2026

The CBSE Class 12 examinations for 2026 witnessed participation from students enrolled in 19,967 schools nationwide. To facilitate this massive examination process, the board established 7,573 examination centers across the country, ensuring smooth conduct of the tests.

A total of 17,80,365 students registered for the examinations this year. Of these, 17,68,968 students actually appeared for the tests. The results show that 15,07,109 students successfully cleared the examinations, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 85.20%.

Year-on-Year Comparison Shows Decline

The 2026 results mark a notable shift when compared to the previous year’s performance. In 2025, the board had recorded a significantly higher pass percentage. That year, 17,04,367 students registered for the examinations, with 16,92,794 appearing for the tests. The number of successful candidates stood at 14,96,307, yielding an overall pass rate of 88.39%.

This year’s results reflect a decline of 3.19 percentage points compared to the previous year. The dip in the overall pass percentage indicates that the 2026 examinations may have been more challenging or that a different cohort of students appeared for the tests. Educational analysts suggest that such fluctuations are normal in board examinations and do not necessarily indicate any systemic issues.

The institutional performance data reinforces the strong academic framework of centrally administered schools. Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas continue to set benchmarks in secondary education, thanks to their structured curriculum, experienced faculty, and consistent evaluation methods. Meanwhile, the performance of government schools remains respectable, though there is room for improvement to bridge the gap with the top-performing institutions.

For students and parents awaiting results, the CBSE has made provisions for accessing scorecards through official channels. Candidates are advised to verify their marks and contact their respective schools for any discrepancies or clarification regarding the evaluation process.
