CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exam Kicks Off with Mathematics Paper
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to commence its second round of board examinations for Class 10 students starting today, May 15. This supplementary examination cycle, which runs until May 21, gives students a valuable opportunity to enhance their scores in selected subjects. The first paper scheduled for today is Mathematics, offered in both Standard and Basic levels.
A total of 6,68,854 students from across the country have registered to appear in this seven-day examination window. The exams are being conducted under the newly introduced two-board-exam policy, which represents a significant shift in the academic assessment framework.
Exam Structure and Student Participation
The examination has been designed to accommodate students with varying needs. Among the total registered candidates, 5,25,655 students will appear to improve their performance in any three subjects chosen from Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and languages. Meanwhile, 85,285 students will take compartment examinations, and 57,914 students will appear for a combination of compartment subjects and performance improvement papers.
Most examinations are scheduled to take place from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, though some subject papers will be conducted at 12:30 PM. The timing variations have been planned to ensure smooth conduct of the examinations across different subjects and centers.
Previous Results and Current Statistics
The CBSE had released the results for the first board examination on April 15, in which 23,16,008 students successfully cleared the exams. The mark sheets were made available on DigiLocker following the announcement. However, the board had clarified that these were interim results, with the final results to be declared only after the completion of the second board examination.
This year, a total of 24,83,479 students had registered for the Class 10 examinations, out of which 24,71,777 actually appeared for the tests. The pass percentage stood at an impressive 93.70 percent. The second examination provides an opportunity for students who wish to improve their scores and achieve better academic outcomes.
New Examination Policy Benefits
The introduction of the two-board-exam system marks a progressive change in the educational landscape. This policy is being viewed as a positive development that reduces the pressure on students by offering them a second chance to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Under this framework, students who are not satisfied with their performance in the first board examination can appear for the second round to improve their scores in up to three subjects.

Following the conclusion of the second board examination, the CBSE is expected to release the final results for Class 10 in June. Only after this announcement will students receive their final mark sheets.
