CBSE Slashes Re-Evaluation and Answer Sheet Verification Fees to ₹100

In a significant move aimed at easing student concerns, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major reduction in fees for answer sheet verification and re-evaluation. The decision comes amid ongoing discussions and worries surrounding the on-screen marking (OSM) system. With this change, the board has made the entire process more accessible and budget-friendly for students across the country.

What Are the New Fee Structures?

According to CBSE Secretary Sanjay Kumar, the revised fee structure is now remarkably lower than before. Students will be required to pay just ₹100 to view their scanned answer sheets, another ₹100 for verification of those sheets, and a nominal ₹25 for re-checking the response to a specific question. In a further student-friendly move, the board has clarified that if a student’s score improves or is revised following the scrutiny process, the entire fee paid will be refunded in full.

This announcement represents a substantial shift from the previous charges, which stood at ₹700 for obtaining a scanned copy of the answer sheet and ₹500 for error verification. The new pricing is expected to encourage more students to opt for these processes without financial hesitation.

Why This Decision Matters

Secretary Kumar emphasized that the interests of students remain the top priority for both the Ministry of Education and CBSE. He reassured that no student should ever feel they have received fewer marks than their actual performance warranted. The existing re-evaluation framework has been strengthened to ensure that all marks are calculated with complete accuracy and precision.

The reduced fees are designed to make the entire system more transparent and student-friendly. By lowering the cost barrier, CBSE aims to empower students to proactively seek verification of their results, ensuring that every mark they earn is rightfully credited to them.

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining Scanned Copies

The process for applying for a scanned copy of the evaluated answer sheet has been clearly outlined by the board. Here is how students can navigate the procedure:

  • Application Window: The first step involves submitting an application to receive the scanned copy of the evaluated answer sheet. The fee schedule and timeline for Class 12 have already been announced.
  • Online Submission Only: Applications must be submitted online by the student personally. The board has advised students to avoid applying through cyber cafes or third parties to ensure the security and integrity of the process.
  • Accessing the Copy: Once processed, the scanned copy will be made available on the student’s personal login ID, from where it can be easily downloaded.
  • First-Come, First-Served Basis: Copies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning those who apply earlier will receive their documents sooner.
  • Multiple Subjects: Students can apply for one or multiple subjects, but it is mandatory to submit all applications in a single instance.

What Happens After Reviewing the Answer Sheet?

If a student remains dissatisfied with the marks after viewing the scanned copy, they have the option to proceed further. They can apply for a formal verification of the answer sheet or request a re-evaluation of specific questions. With the newly reduced fees, this entire chain of checks and balances is now more affordable, allowing students to pursue every available avenue to ensure their results are fair and accurate.

This decisive action by CBSE is being viewed as a proactive step towards greater accountability and student welfare, reinforcing the board’s commitment to a transparent and reliable examination system.
