IIT Bombay Announces UCEED and CEED 2027 Exam Dates
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has officially confirmed the examination dates for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) and the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) for the 2027 admission cycle. According to the institute’s announcement, both examinations will be conducted on January 17, 2027, across the country in a single shift.
Understanding UCEED and CEED
UCEED serves as the gateway for admission into Bachelor of Design (BDes) programs at several prestigious institutions, including IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Jabalpur. On the other hand, CEED is conducted for candidates seeking admission into Master of Design (MDes) programs at these institutions.
Both examinations are highly competitive and attract thousands of aspiring designers from across the country each year. The MSQ section will include 10 questions worth 40 marks, while the MCQ section will consist of 26 questions with a combined weightage of 78 marks. Part A accounts for a total of 150 marks.
Part B of the CEED examination focuses on evaluating candidates’ practical design skills. This section includes questions related to sketching, creativity, form sensitivity, visual sensitivity, and problem identification. Part B carries a total of 110 marks, bringing the overall examination weightage to 260 marks.
UCEED 2027 Examination Pattern
The UCEED examination follows a similar two-part structure but with different weightage distribution. Part A consists of 14 NAT questions worth 56 marks, 15 MSQ questions carrying 60 marks, and 28 MCQ questions valued at 84 marks. The total weightage for Part A is 200 marks.
Part B of the UCEED examination includes two questions focused on sketching and design aptitude, with each question carrying 50 marks. This section evaluates candidates’ creative thinking abilities, drawing skills, and their understanding of fundamental design principles.
