Education Ministry Issues Clarification After Fire Reported at SPA Building in Delhi

The Ministry of Education has moved to dispel confusion surrounding a fire incident that occurred in the national capital on Monday morning. With unverified claims circulating on social media and in certain media reports, the Ministry has officially confirmed that the blaze did not break out at its own office but at a separate institutional building in the ITO area.

Ministry Sets the Record Straight

Following a wave of speculation, the Ministry of Education released an official statement to correct the misinformation. The Ministry clarified that its headquarters is located at Kartavya Bhawan-2 on Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road in New Delhi, while the fire incident took place at the campus of the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), situated at 4-Block B, Indraprastha Estate, Vikas Marg (ITO), New Delhi.

Officials emphasized that the reports suggesting the Ministry’s office was affected were entirely inaccurate. The clarification was issued specifically to curb the spread of false information and ensure that the public receives verified facts.

What Exactly Happened?

On Monday morning, authorities received a call reporting a fire at the SPA building in central Delhi. Early accounts mistakenly linked the incident to the Education Ministry’s office, which led to widespread confusion across news platforms and social media channels.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, an alert was received at 9:37 AM, prompting an immediate response. Eight fire tenders were dispatched to the location without delay. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the blaze had originated in the faculty room of the administrative block, located on the second floor of the SPA building.

The Indraprastha Estate police station had already been informed of the situation at approximately 8:45 AM. A local police team arrived swiftly at the scene. It was a multi-tasking staff (MTS) employee named Saurabh Sharma who first noticed smoke and flames emerging from the administrative block and placed a call to the PCR helpline, triggering the emergency response.

Rapid Response and Rescue Operations

Once the fire was reported, a coordinated response was launched involving multiple agencies. The scene saw the deployment of eight fire tenders, three ambulances, two PCR vans, along with traffic police and local law enforcement personnel, all working together on relief and rescue efforts.

Firefighters worked relentlessly to bring the situation under control. After sustained efforts, the blaze was fully extinguished, and officials later confirmed that no active fire remained anywhere in the building. The area was declared safe, with the situation fully under control.

No Casualties or Damage Reported

Authorities have confirmed that there were no injuries or loss of life resulting from the incident. Reports also indicate that no significant damage to property occurred. While the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, an investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances that led to the outbreak.

Officials are currently conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter. Further findings are expected as the investigation progresses.

Appeal for Caution Against Rumors

In light of the misinformation that spread rapidly following the incident, the Ministry of Education has urged the public to exercise caution. Citizens are advised to refrain from believing unverified reports and to rely solely on official sources for accurate information.

The Ministry reiterated that the incident was minor in nature and was brought under control quickly, with no adverse consequences reported. The swift action by emergency services ensured that the situation did not escalate, and normalcy was restored in a timely manner.
