CBSE Revaluation Portal Targeted by Major Cyberattack Attempt
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) reported a significant cyberattack attempt on its re-evaluation portal on Tuesday, amid an overwhelming surge in student traffic. According to officials, the platform recorded approximately 1.5 million hits within a mere two-minute window, as malicious actors attempted to disrupt services. Despite these aggressive efforts, the board confirmed that all attacks were successfully neutralized, and the application process continued without major interruptions.
Over 16,000 Students Successfully Submit Applications
As of 3:00 PM on Tuesday, more than 16,000 students had successfully completed and submitted their re-evaluation applications. The portal is currently engineered to handle over 8,000 concurrent users in real time, ensuring smooth functionality even during peak traffic periods. CBSE assured students that its technical infrastructure remains robust and fully operational.
Denial-of-Service Attack and Unauthorized Access Attempts
The board disclosed that the portal faced a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack, a tactic designed to overwhelm servers and render services unavailable to legitimate users. During the assault, the system logged close to 15 lakh hits in just 120 seconds. Additionally, there were more than one lakh attempts to gain unauthorized access to restricted files. CBSE’s cybersecurity teams detected these threats immediately and implemented countermeasures to block the intruders.
The board emphasized that its technical staff is maintaining round-the-clock surveillance to monitor any further suspicious activity. This proactive approach is intended to safeguard student data and ensure that no applicant faces inconvenience during the submission window.
Portal Enhancements Based on Student Feedback
In response to input received from students, CBSE has introduced several improvements to the re-evaluation portal. One notable change includes an extension of the application deadline, giving students additional time to complete their submissions without feeling rushed. The board stated that it is committed to continuously refining the platform to make it more user-friendly and efficient for all candidates.
