IIT Stands Firm on 75% Eligibility Rule for JEE Admissions

The Indian Institutes of Technology have officially ruled out any relaxation in the 75% eligibility criterion required for JEE admissions this year. Amid ongoing discussions and speculation, IIT Roorkee has categorically dismissed all rumors suggesting a possible waiver or modification to the existing rule.

According to an official statement, the standardized requirement will remain unchanged for all candidates. The institutes have emphasized that maintaining a uniform benchmark is essential, given that students from 36 different education boards across the country appear for the JEE examination. The eligibility criterion was already communicated to aspirants in December, and no revisions are under consideration.

Uniform Standards Across All Boards

The decision underscores the importance of consistency in the admission process. With candidates hailing from diverse educational backgrounds and board structures, IITs believe that a single, clear-cut standard ensures fairness and transparency. Any deviation, they argue, could create disparities and complicate the selection procedure.

When questioned directly about the possibility of a one-time exemption in light of the recent CBSE marks controversy, IIT Roorkee responded firmly. The institute stated that there would be no reduction in the required percentage, as applicants come from numerous boards with varying evaluation patterns. This uniformity, they noted, is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the admission process.

Past Challenges Reinforce the Rule

Officials also pointed to previous admission cycles where several students were unable to secure seats at IITs and NITs solely because they fell short of the percentage threshold. These instances have reinforced the institute’s stance that altering the rule could lead to further complications rather than solutions.

While the 75% condition remains non-negotiable, the IITs have assured that they are in constant communication with the Central Board of Secondary Education. Efforts are underway to address the concerns of students who may have been affected by the ongoing marks-related issues. The institutes have expressed their commitment to resolving individual grievances to the extent possible, without compromising the established eligibility framework.

Prospective candidates are advised to focus on meeting the existing requirements and preparing thoroughly for the entrance examination, as the current rules will apply without exception.
