NTA Confirms No Score Normalization for CUET PG 2026 Rescheduled Exams

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially addressed the confusion surrounding the CUET PG 2026 examinations. Following a series of queries on social media regarding subjects that were conducted on multiple dates, the agency has issued a clear statement confirming that no form of score normalization was applied to any of the test sessions.

According to the official clarification, all candidates who appeared for the CUET PG 2026 exams have been evaluated strictly on the basis of their absolute marks — the raw scores they earned directly from their performance. This applies equally to the main examinations and the rescheduled tests held for a specific group of candidates.

Why Rescheduled Exams Were Necessary

The need for rescheduled examinations arose due to circumstances beyond the control of both the testing agency and the candidates. In March 2026, disruptions in law and order were reported in Tura, Meghalaya. Additionally, certain overseas examination centers faced security-related concerns that made it impossible to conduct tests as originally planned.

As a result, a total of 565 candidates across 28 different subjects were unable to sit for their exams on the scheduled dates. To ensure that no candidate was unfairly disadvantaged, the NTA arranged for these individuals to take their tests on alternative dates. The rescheduled examinations were conducted on March 29 and March 30, 2026.

The agency emphasized that this decision was made entirely in the interest of the students, ensuring that every candidate received an equal opportunity to appear for their examination without any prejudice or loss.

No Normalization Applied — Here’s the Reasoning

One of the primary concerns raised by candidates and observers was whether the NTA would apply statistical normalization to equate scores between the main examination and the rescheduled sessions. Normalization is a statistical method sometimes used when different sets of question papers are administered across multiple sessions to ensure fairness.

However, the NTA has categorically stated that normalization was not applied to any examination in the CUET PG 2026 cycle — neither the main exams nor the rescheduled ones. The agency explained that the significant disparity in candidate numbers between the main and rescheduled sessions made normalization statistically unnecessary and inappropriate.

To put this into perspective, consider the following figures shared by the NTA:

  • In the English subject, approximately 16,000 candidates appeared for the main examination, while only around 120 candidates took the rescheduled test.
  • For Political Science, the main examination saw roughly 26,000 candidates, whereas the rescheduled session had approximately 100 candidates.
  • In History, nearly 13,600 candidates participated in the main exam, but fewer than 80 candidates appeared in the rescheduled session.

According to the agency, attempting to statistically normalize scores between groups with such vast differences — thousands on one side and merely a hundred or fewer on the other — would not yield meaningful or fair results. Therefore, all candidates were assessed directly on their raw scores without any adjustment or modification.

Consistent Evaluation Standards Throughout

The NTA has further clarified that the same question papers used in the rescheduled examinations were the ones originally prepared and vetted by subject matter experts. These papers were designed with a consistent level of difficulty, ensuring that all candidates — whether they appeared in the main session or the rescheduled one — were tested under comparable conditions.

The agency reassured candidates that their evaluation was based entirely on the marks they actually earned, with no alterations made to any scores. This approach, the NTA stated, upholds the integrity of the examination process and guarantees that every candidate is treated with complete fairness and transparency.

By issuing this clarification, the NTA aims to put an end to any speculation or misinformation circulating on social media. Candidates who appeared for the CUET PG 2026 examinations can rest assured that their results will reflect their true performance, with no statistical adjustments applied to favor or disadvantage any group of test-takers.

The agency remains committed to conducting examinations in a manner that is impartial, transparent, and in the best interest of all candidates, regardless of when or where they appeared for their tests.
