Indian Railways Fills Over 43,000 Positions in FY 2025-26

Indian Railways has completed recruitment for more than 43,000 positions during the financial year 2025-26, according to a high-level review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The meeting, attended by senior railway officials, focused on evaluating the current hiring framework and identifying areas for improvement in the recruitment ecosystem.

Minister Pushes for Greater Transparency and Technological Integration

During the review session, the Railway Minister emphasized the need to make the recruitment process more transparent, technology-driven, and accountable. He stressed that continuous refinement of the hiring system is essential to ensure candidates receive a fair and dependable experience. The discussions centered on leveraging modern digital tools to streamline operations and reduce delays at every stage of selection.

Recruitment Numbers Across Key Categories

The meeting revealed that Indian Railways targeted 47,084 vacancies across six major categories in FY 2025-26. Of these, 43,781 candidates have already been empanelled, reflecting a strong completion rate. The category-wise breakdown is as follows:

  • Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP): 18,799 vacancies announced, with 17,193 candidates recruited
  • Technician roles: 14,298 vacancies, with 13,416 positions filled
  • RPF Sub-Inspector: 452 vacancies, with 450 recruitments completed
  • RPF Constable: 4,208 vacancies, with 4,205 candidates selected
  • Junior Engineer (JE)/DMS/CMA: 7,951 vacancies, with 7,333 positions filled
  • Paramedical categories: 1,376 vacancies, with 1,184 recruitments completed

Shift Toward Digital Examination Platforms

A significant portion of the review focused on the progress made in transitioning departmental examinations to fully computer-based testing (CBT) mode. The Minister also advocated for the introduction of tablet-based examinations wherever feasible, noting that such an approach would make the recruitment cycle faster, more efficient, and more convenient for candidates appearing across the country.

Examinations Conducted in 15 Languages

Railway Recruitment Board examinations are conducted in multiple phases across various cities nationwide. To accommodate the diverse linguistic backgrounds of aspirants, these tests are currently offered in 15 different languages. According to the Railway Ministry, this multilingual approach ensures equal opportunity for all candidates and removes language as a potential barrier to entry.

Upcoming Recruitment Drives in the Next Year

Railway officials also shared details about forthcoming examinations and tentative selection schedules. The following recruitment drives are planned over the next six to twelve months:

  • Level-1 (Group D): 32,438 vacancies
  • ALP (CEN 01/2025): 10,970 vacancies
  • Section Controller: 368 vacancies
  • JE/DMS/CMA: 2,585 vacancies
  • NTPC Graduate: 5,810 vacancies
  • NTPC Undergraduate: 3,058 vacancies

For these positions, the complete process including CBT, skill tests, document verification, and final panel preparation is expected to be concluded within the next six to twelve months.

Status of NTPC and Other Ongoing Examinations

The meeting also reviewed the current status of various recruitment examinations, including NTPC, ministerial and isolated categories, technician roles, and paramedical positions. For NTPC non-typing posts, document verification has already commenced, while results for typing-based positions are expected to be announced shortly.

Swift Action Against Misinformation

Recognizing the prevalence of misleading information circulating on social media and other platforms, the Railway Minister directed all recruitment boards to strengthen communication with candidates. He instructed officials to promptly counter any false claims or rumors, ensuring that aspirants receive accurate updates and maintain confidence in the recruitment process.

The Railway Ministry reiterated its commitment to conducting recruitment that is impartial, transparent, and strictly based on merit, reaffirming its dedication to upholding the integrity of the selection system for all candidates.
