Kerala Government Prioritizes Education with Major Budget Boost
After a decade away from power, the newly formed government in Kerala has signaled a strong commitment to transforming the state’s educational landscape. In its first budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, the administration has earmarked a substantial allocation of ₹1,500 crore for the education department, signaling a clear intent to elevate academic standards and modernize the learning ecosystem across the state.

Under this program, sanitary napkins will be provided free of cost to all girl students, ensuring that no young woman has to compromise her education due to a lack of essential resources.
The initiative goes beyond mere distribution. The government has also planned to install eco-friendly incinerators for the safe and sustainable disposal of sanitary products. Furthermore, the program includes a strong emphasis on maintaining clean and hygienic toilet facilities within school premises. The ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Scientific Temper’ will be established with a dedicated budget of ₹25 crore.
