NTA Issues Revised Guidelines for Re-NEET UG 2026 Candidates
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an updated set of instructions for students preparing to appear in the Re-NEET (UG) 2026 examination, scheduled to be conducted on June 21. The fresh advisory clarifies key details regarding admit cards, identity verification protocols, and candidate conduct on the day of the test.
Previous Admit Cards No Longer Valid
In a significant update, the testing body has confirmed that hall tickets issued for the originally scheduled May 3 examination will not be accepted at any test venue. Candidates must download and print the newly issued admit card specifically designated for the June 21 re-examination before arriving at their assigned center.
Officials have also addressed a common point of confusion among test-takers. Through an official communication on social media, the NTA clarified that individuals who have already downloaded their June 21 admit card do not need to repeat the process. The agency noted that SMS, email, and WhatsApp alerts are primarily intended for those candidates who have yet to obtain their updated hall ticket.
Explaining the rationale behind the change, the NTA stated that many students have been allocated new test centers in their preferred cities, making the earlier May 3 admit cards obsolete. A single download and printout of the June 21 version is all that is required for entry into the examination hall.
Mandatory Biometric Verification at Test Centers
All candidates will be required to undergo a biometric verification process before being allowed into the examination room. This security measure, which includes fingerprint scanning and facial recognition, will be conducted after the standard frisking procedure is completed.
The verification will take place prior to the commencement of the examination. This step has been introduced as part of a broader effort to enhance the security and transparency of the testing process.
Circumstances Allowing Exemption from Biometric Checks
The NTA has outlined specific situations where a candidate may be exempted from the biometric verification requirement. In such cases, the individual will still be permitted to sit for the examination, provided they submit a written undertaking at the test center.
Exemptions may be granted under the following conditions:
- Technical malfunction of the biometric scanning device
- Poor quality of the captured biometric data
- Connectivity issues with the UIDAI server
- Physical inability of the candidate to provide biometric data
Verification Timing and Process During the Exam
The agency has reassured candidates that they will not be disturbed for biometric procedures while the examination is in progress. Where necessary, this verification will be completed either before the test begins or after it concludes, ensuring that candidates can focus on their paper without interruption.
Examination Schedule and Timings
The Re-NEET 2026 examination is scheduled to take place on June 21 from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. Candidates with disabilities (PwD/PwBD) who qualify for compensatory time will be given additional duration to complete the test, with their examination extending until 6:20 PM.
Consequences of Refusing Biometric Verification
The NTA has urged all candidates to cooperate fully with test center staff and security personnel during the verification process. It has been made clear that refusing to undergo biometric verification without a valid documented reason will be treated as a violation of examination regulations.
Such instances may lead to legal action against the candidate under the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. This legislation empowers authorities to take strict measures against individuals found to be in violation of established examination protocols.
