NEET Re-Exam 2026: Candidate Apprehended for Using Hidden Phone in Hyderabad
In a significant breach of examination integrity, a student was caught using unfair means during the NEET re-examination held in Hyderabad. The incident, which took place at a designated test center, has led to the registration of a formal police case against the 18-year-old candidate.
How the Mobile Phone Was Concealed
According to law enforcement officials, the young man, a resident of Achampet, arrived at the District Parishad High School in Raghannaguda, located under the Adibatla police station limits, on June 21 to appear for the exam. The authorities allege that he had meticulously planned his actions well in advance.
Reportedly, the student reached the examination venue at around 7 in the morning. Taking advantage of the early hours, he allegedly hid a mobile phone inside the ventilation unit of the school restroom. In a further attempt to evade detection, he later wrapped the device in a zip-lock cover and concealed it within the toilet’s flush tank.
Interestingly, the campus had undergone two thorough security sweeps—once at 6 AM and again at 11 AM—prior to the exam’s commencement. All candidates were also subjected to strict frisking procedures. Despite these rigorous checks, the phone cleverly hidden within the flush tank managed to escape the initial scrutiny of the security personnel.
The Deceptive Bathroom Break
Once the examination was underway, the student complained of a stomach ache and sought permission to visit the restroom. This particular facility was situated at a distance from the main school building and served as the sole common toilet for the entire examination center.
When the candidate failed to return within a reasonable timeframe, the invigilator on duty grew suspicious. Subsequently, staff members were dispatched to investigate the situation. They reportedly caught the student red-handed, actively browsing for answers on his mobile phone while inside the restroom.
Digital Evidence and Confession
A subsequent examination of the seized device revealed that the student had been searching for solutions to the exam questions on the Google search engine. Notably, apart from Instagram, no other suspicious applications were found to be active on the phone at the time of the inspection.
During the ensuing interrogation, the student purportedly admitted to his wrongdoing. He has been taken into police custody as the investigation progresses.
Legal Action Initiated
Acting on a formal complaint lodged by the school administration, the police have registered a case against the student. The charges have been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
This incident highlights the increasing challenges that examination bodies face in maintaining the sanctity of competitive tests. Despite the implementation of multi-layered security protocols, including physical checks and surveillance, determined individuals continue to devise innovative methods to circumvent the system. The authorities have stated that a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
