Tragic End for Maharashtra NEET Aspirant After Recording Apology Video for Mother

A young medical entrance aspirant from Maharashtra has reportedly taken his own life, leaving behind a heartbreaking video message for his mother. The 18-year-old student, identified as Sushil Dhage, was preparing for the NEET-UG examination and had recently appeared for the re-test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Incident Details Emerge from Hingoli

The unfortunate incident took place in the Asthavinayak Nagar area of Hingoli city. According to officials, Dhage jumped into a well on Wednesday morning at approximately 10:30 am. Before taking this drastic step, he recorded a 33-second video on his mobile phone, specifically addressing his mother.

In the emotional clip, the young man could be heard apologizing to his mother and asking her not to worry. He expressed a wish to be born as her child again in his next life and requested her to take care of his sibling, Sumedh. The video captured his final words seeking forgiveness before he ended his life.

Family Points to NEET Re-Examination as Possible Trigger

Preliminary information gathered by authorities suggests that the student may have been under significant stress following the NEET re-examination. Family members informed the police that Dhage found the re-test paper extremely challenging, which reportedly left him anxious and distressed.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and are currently investigating whether there is any direct connection between the examination and the tragic incident. An officer from the Hingoli City Police Station confirmed that the family’s complaint specifically mentions the NEET re-examination, and investigators are working to establish whether academic pressure played a role in this unfortunate event.

Context of the NEET Re-Examination

The NEET-UG re-examination was conducted on June 21 after the original test held on May 3 was cancelled. The cancellation came amid an ongoing investigation into alleged question paper leaks. More than 22 lakh students were expected to appear for the rescheduled examination across the country.

This tragic case highlights the immense pressure that medical aspirants face while preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations. The rigorous syllabus, intense competition, and high stakes associated with securing admission to medical colleges can take a significant toll on students’ mental well-being.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are reviewing the video message, speaking with family members and friends, and gathering details about the student’s academic background and mental state in the days leading up to the tragedy.

The case has once again brought attention to the mental health challenges faced by students preparing for competitive exams in India. Education experts and mental health professionals have repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger support systems for aspirants, including access to counseling services and stress management resources.

While the investigation into this specific case continues, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of recognizing signs of distress in young students and providing timely intervention. Family members, educators, and peers are encouraged to maintain open communication with students and offer emotional support during high-pressure academic periods.

The authorities have urged anyone facing similar distress to seek help from mental health professionals and support helplines rather than resorting to drastic measures.
