A Class 10 Student from Raipur to Help Build a Satellite for Global Space Mission

In an extraordinary achievement, Mahima Rajput, a Class 10 student at Swami Atmanand English Medium School in Tilak Nagar, Raipur, has been selected for the prestigious international space mission ShaktiSAT. Her selection places her among student participants from 108 countries, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey and a proud moment for India on the global stage.

Mahima successfully navigated a rigorous multi-stage online selection process to secure her place as a national finalist. She will now join students from across the world in this collaborative space science project, representing India in what promises to be a groundbreaking initiative in student-led space exploration.

A Journey of Dedication and Learning

Reflecting on her path to selection, Mahima shared that her principal first informed her mentor teacher about the opportunity, which led to her registration for the program. Following registration, she engaged with a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in space science and satellite technology.

The program comprised 21 modules and 365 lessons, all of which Mahima completed with dedication. These modules covered fundamental principles of science and satellites, equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary for the hands-on phases of the mission.

Building Satellites for Lunar Exploration

As part of the ShaktiSAT mission, Mahima and her fellow student participants from around the globe have received specialized training in satellite construction. The ambitious project involves creating two satellites with distinct roles in lunar exploration. One satellite is designed to land on the Moon’s surface, while the other will be deployed to orbit the Moon.

The team is scheduled to travel to Delhi on August 23 to begin the satellite assembly phase. Following the construction and testing period, the satellites are slated for launch in October from Sriharikota, India’s primary spaceport. This hands-on experience provides students with unprecedented exposure to real-world space engineering and mission planning.

Beyond the Stars: A Vision for Civil Services

While Mahima takes immense pride in her selection for this international mission, she remains focused on her long-term aspirations. She has harbored a dream since childhood of becoming a civil servant, and she intends to pursue a career in the civil services after completing her education. Her participation in ShaktiSAT, she believes, has strengthened her resolve and expanded her horizons.

Mentor’s Perspective on the Achievement

Yogeshwari Lahiri, Mahima’s mentor teacher, expressed her thoughts on the significance of this international space project. She explained that the selection process, which identified talented students from around the world, has now been completed. In August, students from various countries will travel to Delhi, where they will join their Indian counterparts in constructing the satellites. Scientists and students associated with the Sriharikota facility will then oversee the launch of the two satellites in October.

Lahiri also noted that Mahima’s selection came through a competitive national-level process. Two students were initially chosen at the first stage of national selection, and Mahima’s successful progression through subsequent stages culminated in her final selection for the international mission.

A Source of Inspiration

Mahima’s achievement serves as an inspiration to students across India, demonstrating that age is no barrier to participating in cutting-edge scientific endeavors. Her journey from a classroom in Raipur to an international space mission underscores the potential of young minds when given the right opportunities and guidance. As she prepares to represent her country on this global platform, her story highlights the growing role of youth in shaping the future of space exploration.
