New Academic Year for First-Year BTech Students at All 23 IITs to Begin July 20
All 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country are set to kick off the new academic session for first-year BTech students starting July 20. The admission process for the 2026-27 academic year is expected to be completed by the third week of July, paving the way for a week-long orientation program designed to help newcomers settle into campus life.
During this initial phase, students will have the opportunity to interact with their peers, meet faculty members, and familiarize themselves with the campus environment. Each IIT will guide incoming students through their new surroundings, helping them overcome any feelings of homesickness, hesitation, or anxiety about living away from family. Once the orientation concludes, regular academic instruction will commence.
Orientation and Induction Before Classes Begin
Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, confirmed that the admission process will wrap up on July 23 and 24, marking the official start of the new session for first-year BTech students. Following the orientation, an induction program will be conducted to further ease students into their new academic and social environment. This structured transition period ensures that students feel comfortable and prepared before their first lectures begin.
At IIT BHU, the new session is scheduled to start on July 22. The sequence of events includes student registration on the first day, followed by hostel allotment, biometric verification, and registration formalities from July 27 to 30. An orientation session will take place on July 30, with the induction program running from that date through August 5. Regular classes are slated to begin on August 7.
Similarly, IIT Delhi will commence its reporting process on July 22, followed by an orientation program and then the start of regular classes. IIT Jodhpur is set to begin its new session on July 27. Professor Diganta Goswami, Dean of Academic Courses at IIT Guwahati, announced that the new session at his institution will also start on July 20.
