NIOS Extends Deadline for Six-Month Bridge Course Registrations

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has extended the application window for its six-month certificate programme in Primary Teacher Education, commonly referred to as the bridge course. Candidates who wish to apply can now submit their applications online until 19 July 2026. The registration portal remains active on the official NIOS bridge course website, allowing aspiring educators to complete the process before the revised cutoff date.

This bridge course has been specifically designed for teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree and intend to continue teaching at the primary level. The programme aims to strengthen educators’ subject knowledge and pedagogical skills, enabling them to deliver more effective instruction to young learners. By completing this course, teachers can maintain their eligibility to teach in primary classrooms, in line with current regulatory requirements.

Official Notification Details

NIOS initially launched the registration process for this six-month bridge course in Primary Teacher Education through an official notification issued on 15 April 2026. The online registration portal was originally scheduled to remain open until 30 April 2026, during which eligible candidates could submit their applications.

Following the initial closure, the institute received multiple requests from various stakeholders urging an extension of the registration deadline and a reopening of the portal. Taking these representations into consideration, the competent authority has agreed to reopen the registration window, giving candidates who missed the earlier deadline a fresh opportunity to apply.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

This bridge course has been developed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the overarching guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The programme is mandatory for primary school teachers who were appointed between 28 June 2018 and 11 August 2023 on the basis of their B.Ed. qualification. For these educators, successfully completing the six-month bridge course is essential to maintain their service eligibility and continue teaching at the primary level.

Required Documents

Candidates preparing to apply for the NIOS bridge course should keep the following documents ready:

  • A recent passport-sized colour photograph
  • The candidate’s signature in digital format
  • B.Ed. mark sheet or degree certificate
  • Official appointment letter from the employing school
  • A self-declaration certificate attested by the school principal
  • Any additional documents that NIOS may request during the application process

Step-by-Step Application Process

Applicants can complete their registration by following the steps outlined below:

  • Visit the official NIOS bridge course website to access the application portal.
  • Locate and click on the bridge course registration link for the 2026 session available on the homepage.
  • Create a new registration account and obtain the login credentials.
  • Log in using the generated credentials and fill in all the required details in the application form.
  • Upload the necessary documents, including the passport-sized photograph, signature, B.Ed. certificate, appointment letter, and other supporting files.
  • Review all the information provided in the application form carefully to ensure accuracy.
  • Submit the completed application form before the extended deadline.

This extension provides a valuable opportunity for teachers who may have missed the original registration window. With the revised deadline now set for 19 July 2026, eligible candidates have sufficient time to gather their documents and complete the online application process without undue haste. The bridge course represents an important step in ensuring that primary school teachers meet the professional standards required for effective elementary education in India.
