Delhi University Opens Admissions for One-Year PG Programmes Under NEP for the First Time
Delhi University has officially opened admissions for its newly introduced one-year postgraduate programmes, marking a significant first for the institution under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Eligible candidates who meet the required criteria can submit their applications online until 11 July.
This new academic pathway offers graduates of the university’s four-year undergraduate courses a faster route to earning a master’s degree. The admissions process commenced on 5 July and is exclusively available to students who have completed the four-year Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022.
Merit-Based Selection and Eligibility Criteria
The university has confirmed that admission to these one-year postgraduate programmes will be granted on the basis of merit. Applicants must have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree and fulfil any specific requirements outlined for their chosen course. This streamlined structure is designed to recognise the depth of learning achieved during the extended undergraduate programme.
Under the new framework, students who accumulate the necessary credits during their four-year undergraduate studies become eligible for the one-year master’s programme, bypassing the traditional two-year duration. This initiative represents a major milestone in the university’s ongoing implementation of NEP 2020, which emphasises flexibility and multidisciplinary learning.
Applications Also Open for M.Sc. Biotechnology
In addition to the one-year programmes, Delhi University has also invited applications for the two-year M.Sc. course in Biotechnology. Candidates who have qualified the GAT-B 2026 examination are eligible to apply for this programme, along with the two-year M.Sc. offering in Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
Over 62,000 Students Submit College and Course Preferences
Meanwhile, the undergraduate admissions process under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) is progressing steadily. The university has received a total of 1,48,407 applications to date. Of these, 62,524 candidates have successfully completed Phase II by submitting their preferences for programmes and colleges. The final date for submitting applications is 11 July.
Current Status of Postgraduate Admissions
For the traditional two-year postgraduate programmes, the university has already completed approximately 9,500 admissions. The current entry window will close on Sunday at 11:59 PM. Candidates should note that the third allocation list is scheduled to be released on 9 July, which will include admissions to performance-based programmes such as MFA, B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, and Music.
Other Admission Updates
For B.Tech admissions, the second allocation list has already been released. Shortlisted candidates are required to accept their seats by 8 July. Additionally, the first spot admission round for the five-year integrated law programme is currently underway, with applications open until 7 July.
