NCERT Releases Most New Textbooks for Classes 1–9; Remaining Two Titles Expected in August

Students across India will soon have access to the complete set of newly designed NCERT textbooks, as the organisation has confirmed that the vast majority of titles for Classes 1 through 9 are now available. According to officials, only two books remain unpublished, with both expected to hit the shelves by August 2026.

The rollout aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the corresponding National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. These revised textbooks are part of a broader effort to modernise learning materials and align them with contemporary pedagogical standards.

Which Books Are Still Pending?

The two outstanding titles are the second volumes of Social Science and Mathematics for Class 9. These are slated for release in August, completing the full set for the current academic cycle.

A senior NCERT official confirmed that all textbooks for Classes 1 through 8 are already accessible in both digital and print formats. For Class 9, the majority of subject books have been distributed, with only the aforementioned two volumes yet to be published.

Context Behind the Delayed Availability

This update comes in response to earlier concerns raised by educators and parents, who noted that several textbooks were unavailable even three months into the academic session. The staggered release has been attributed to the extensive revision process involved in aligning content with the new curriculum framework.

The official added that the transition to new textbooks for Classes 10 and 11 is scheduled to begin in the academic session 2027–28. Until then, students in these grades will continue using the existing books for the 2026–27 session.

Understanding the NCF Framework

The National Curriculum Framework serves as a comprehensive set of guidelines that shapes the structure and content of school education. It is a cornerstone of the NEP 2020, designed to foster holistic development, critical thinking, and practical knowledge among learners.

  • All Classes 1–8 textbooks are now available in print and digital formats.
  • Class 9 has received most books, with two titles pending until August.
  • Classes 10 and 11 will adopt new books from the 2027–28 session.
  • The new materials follow the NCF-SE 2023 guidelines under NEP 2020.

The phased introduction of updated textbooks reflects the government’s commitment to a gradual, well-structured transition in school education. Parents and students are advised to check official NCERT channels for updates on the release of the remaining two volumes.
