The Rare Conjunction of Padmini and Parama Ekadashi in Adhik Maas 2026

The sacred period of Adhik Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas, commenced on May 17, 2026, and will continue until June 15, 2026. This extra month, occurring once every three years, holds immense spiritual significance in Hindu tradition. Devotees consider it highly auspicious to worship Lord Vishnu during this time, as it is believed to bring lasting happiness and prosperity into one’s life.

Understanding Adhik Maas and Its Unique Ekadashis

A standard year consists of 12 months and 24 Ekadashis. However, during a year that includes Adhik Maas, the count rises to 13 months and 26 Ekadashis. This year, the month of Jyeshtha extends to 60 days instead of the usual 30, due to the presence of Adhik Maas from May 17 to June 15, 2026. During this extended period, two special Ekadashis occur, offering devotees a rare opportunity for spiritual growth and divine blessings.

The difference between the Hindu lunar calendar and the solar calendar amounts to approximately 11 days each year. To reconcile this gap, an extra month is added every three years, known as Adhik Maas, Mal Maas, or Purushottam Maas. This adjustment ensures that festivals and religious observances align correctly with the seasons.

The Two Sacred Ekadashis of Adhik Maas 2026

Within this rare three-year cycle, two exceptional Ekadashis will be observed: Padmini Ekadashi on May 27, 2026, and Parama Ekadashi on June 11, 2026. These fasting days are considered supreme for attaining spiritual elevation, material wealth, and ultimate liberation. According to ancient texts, Lord Krishna himself explained the significance and proper observance of these Ekadashis to Arjuna. Since Lord Vishnu is regarded as the presiding deity of Adhik Maas, the benefits of observing these fasts are believed to multiply infinitely.

Padmini Ekadashi (Kamala Ekadashi)

Date: May 27, 2026 (Wednesday)

Fortnight: Shukla Paksha of Adhik Maas

Observance Guidelines: The fasting for Padmini Ekadashi begins from the Dashami Tithi itself. On the day before, devotees are advised to eat food cooked in barley and rice, served in a bronze vessel. It is recommended to avoid salt entirely during this period.

Significance and Benefits: Observing this fast is believed to fulfill all types of heartfelt desires. Devotees gain fame, prosperity, and the joy of having children. The fast helps remove material sufferings from life and ensures the attainment of the rare Vaikuntha realm after death.

Parama Ekadashi (Purushottami Ekadashi)

Date: June 11, 2026 (Thursday)

Fortnight: Krishna Paksha of Adhik Maas

Special Acts of Charity: On this day, performing the Panchadan — donating gold, knowledge, food, land, and cows — holds extraordinary significance. These charitable acts are considered highly meritorious and amplify the spiritual benefits of the fast.

Significance and Benefits: As the name suggests, this Ekadashi bestows supreme accomplishments and divine opulence. Religious beliefs hold that observing this fast destroys severe poverty and financial hardships. It also cleanses unknown sins and grants a noble spiritual destination after death.

Simple Worship Method for Adhik Maas Ekadashis

The ritual procedure for both Padmini and Parama Ekadashi remains largely similar. Devotees can follow these steps to observe the fasts correctly:

  • On the evening before Ekadashi (Dashami Tithi), consume only satvik food.
  • Try to eat meals in a bronze vessel and avoid salt during this period.
  • On Ekadashi day, wake up early and take a holy bath before sunrise.
  • Set up a clean altar with an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.
  • Light a lamp using ghee and offer incense sticks.
  • Recite Vishnu Sahasranama or any preferred Vishnu mantra.
  • Offer fruits, flowers, and Tulsi leaves to the deity.
  • Stay awake during the night, engaging in devotional songs and prayers.
  • Break the fast on Dwadashi day after performing morning rituals and donating to the needy.

These two Ekadashis represent a rare celestial alignment that occurs only once every three years. For those seeking spiritual progress, relief from material struggles, or a deeper connection with the divine, observing these fasts with sincerity and devotion can yield profound benefits. The combination of Lord Vishnu’s grace during Adhik Maas and the inherent power of Ekadashi creates an unmatched opportunity for transformation and blessing in one’s life.
