Ajit Pawar’s Educational Background

The sudden demise of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar in a tragic plane crash near Baramati has sent shockwaves across the state and the nation. The aircraft, carrying the 66-year-old leader and four others, met with a fatal accident near the runway, leaving no survivors. As condolences pour in from all quarters, many are reflecting on the life and journey of the man popularly known as ‘Dada’ among his supporters.

Given his long and eventful political career, questions often arise about his academic qualifications. Here is a closer look at how much formal education the six-time Deputy Chief Minister had pursued.

Early Life and Family Background

Ajit Pawar was born on July 22, 1959, in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. He was the son of Anantrao Pawar, the elder brother of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar. His father was associated with the V. Shantaram Rajkamal Studio. Growing up in a politically connected family, Ajit was introduced to public life early on, largely under the mentorship of his uncle, Sharad Pawar. This guidance played a pivotal role in shaping his political instincts and career trajectory.

Academic Pursuits and Challenges

Ajit Pawar was candid about his academic struggles. In one of his interviews, he revealed that he had failed in a subject during his tenth-grade examinations. However, he cleared the exam the following year. He often admitted that he did not consider himself a bright student and had taken a break from formal education for a while.

He went on to enrol in a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) programme but could not complete it. Explaining the situation, he once said, “I pursued B.Com, but I could not become a full-fledged B.Com student. I still have one semester left. After a certain point, you cannot appear for the B.Com exam without completing that semester, and then you have to go back to appearing for the Class 12 exams.” Due to this incomplete degree, he consistently described himself as a Class 12 pass candidate.

Leanings Toward Public Service

Even during his student days, Ajit Pawar showed a keen interest in social and public activities. His inclination toward grassroots issues and community work gradually pulled him away from academics and toward active politics. This early shift in focus set the stage for a long and influential political career that would see him hold significant positions in Maharashtra’s government multiple times.

While his formal education may have remained incomplete, his practical understanding of administration and politics made him a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape. His journey reflects how real-world experience and public service can sometimes outweigh conventional academic credentials.
