CBSE Unveils Alternative Assessment Timeline for Class 12 Students in West Asia

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the schedule for uploading marks under its alternative assessment framework, designed specifically for Class 12 students in West Asian nations where board examinations were called off due to geopolitical instability. This strategic move aims to ensure that the affected students receive their results without unnecessary delays, allowing them to proceed with their higher education plans seamlessly.

Portal Access Window: April 8 to April 17

According to an official notification issued by the board on March 27, 2026, schools will be granted access to the dedicated online portal from April 8 through April 17, 2026. During this ten-day window, authorized school administrators can log in using their credentials to submit the marks for each eligible student. The board has strongly advised all institutions to thoroughly review the second notification document before initiating the upload process, ensuring complete alignment with the prescribed guidelines.

Strict Protocol: No Room for Errors

CBSE has issued a clear and firm warning regarding the importance of accuracy during the data entry phase. Once the marks are submitted, requests for corrections, revisions, or adjustments will not be entertained under any circumstances. The examination controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj, has reiterated this directive, emphasizing that schools must exercise utmost diligence and verify every entry before final submission. The deadline is absolute, and institutions are expected to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe.

Affected Countries and Examination Cancellations

The decision to cancel the Class 12 examinations, originally scheduled between March 16 and April 10, 2026, applies to several West Asian nations. These include Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The board took this step after carefully assessing the extraordinary circumstances prevailing in these regions, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and examination staff alike.

Methodology for Result Compilation

Under the newly implemented policy, each student’s final result will be calculated based on two primary components: internal assessment scores and performance in examinations conducted on or before February 28, 2026. For subjects where exams could not be held, schools are required to submit comprehensive data drawn from quarterly assessments, half-yearly examinations, and pre-board test scores. This multi-source approach ensures that the evaluation reflects a student’s consistent academic performance throughout the academic year.

Furthermore, the board has instructed all affiliated schools to maintain the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and objectivity throughout the entire assessment process. The guiding principle behind this framework is to safeguard the interests of every student, ensuring that no learner is disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond their control. Schools are expected to follow the protocol meticulously, keeping the welfare of students as the foremost priority.
