CBSE Dismisses Claims of Scanning Irregularities in OSM-Based Evaluation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has firmly rejected allegations circulating in certain media sections regarding flaws in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. In an official statement released on Wednesday, the board described these claims as completely baseless, particularly dismissing suggestions that answer sheets were scanned hastily or without adequate preparation.

Taking to its official handle on the social media platform X, CBSE clarified that every stage of the OSM process—including scanning, quality verification, marking, and final assessment—was executed according to established protocols under continuous supervision. The board emphasized that the entire procedure was carried out with a strong focus on transparency and impartiality, ensuring that no step was compromised at any point.

Appeal to Students and Parents

Reaffirming its commitment as a responsible national institution, CBSE stated that maintaining the credibility of its examination and evaluation framework remains a top priority. To this end, rigorous quality checks and monitoring mechanisms were deployed at each phase of the process to uphold the highest standards of accuracy.

The board has urged students and their families to rely exclusively on information released through official channels and to steer clear of misleading or unverified reports. It reiterated that all necessary measures were taken to safeguard the integrity of the evaluation workflow.

Context Behind the Controversy

The clarification comes in the wake of CBSE announcing the Class 12 board exam results on May 13. While the overall pass percentage exceeded 85 percent, the figures reflected a decline of more than three percentage points compared to the previous academic year—a shift that prompted questions from some quarters.

This year marked the first time CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking system on such a large scale for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets. Following the release of results, a section of students and parents raised concerns about the quality of scanning and the overall assessment methodology. In response, the board has been proactively issuing clarifications to address these grievances and reassure stakeholders about the robustness of the system.

CBSE has consistently maintained that its evaluation infrastructure is designed to handle the volume and complexity of answer sheets with precision, and that any suggestion of negligence is entirely unfounded. The board continues to encourage stakeholders to approach the process with confidence and to verify any information through trusted, official sources before drawing conclusions.
