CBSE Suspends GD Goenka High School, Sohna Affiliation for One Year

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken decisive action against GD Goenka High School in Sohna, Gurugram, by suspending its affiliation for the academic session 2026-27. This penalty follows serious violations related to campus safety protocols and infrastructure sharing norms that came to light during a formal inspection.

Multiple Institutions Operating Under One Roof

Board officials discovered that the school was sharing its premises and building with two other educational institutions without any proper physical demarcation or permanent boundary wall separating them. The inspection revealed that different organizations were functioning across various floors of the same building, with a university program also operating on the upper level.

This arrangement raised significant red flags for the board, which classified the situation as a serious threat to student welfare. The lack of separation created unnecessary exposure of young learners to outsiders, increasing risks that the board deemed unacceptable under its affiliation guidelines.

Student Safety Remains Non-Negotiable

In its official order, CBSE emphasized that a shared campus without adequate physical barriers exposes students to potential bullying, harassment, and unwanted interactions with individuals from higher education institutions. The board reiterated that every affiliated school must maintain a completely secure environment that remains inaccessible to unauthorized persons.

The inspection team also noted that the school administration was not in a position to relocate the other institutions to separate premises within a short timeframe. While acknowledging that the school had made some attempts to address the objections raised during inspection, the board determined that the violations were substantial enough to warrant strict disciplinary measures.

Strict Warning Issued to All Affiliated Schools

This action serves as a clear message to every CBSE-affiliated institution across the country. The board has explicitly stated that any compromise on student safety or infrastructure standards will invite severe consequences. Officials have signaled the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy for such infractions moving forward.

Considerate Approach Toward Student Interests

Despite the severity of the violations, CBSE demonstrated consideration for the academic future of currently enrolled students. The competent authority issued the following directives:

  • The school’s affiliation stands suspended for one year, covering the 2026-27 academic session.
  • During the suspension period, the school cannot admit new students to Classes 9 and 11.
  • Students currently studying in Classes 9 through 12 may continue their education at the same institution.
  • The school must ensure complete safety for all students and strictly comply with every CBSE regulation.

Mandatory Infrastructure Requirements

CBSE has issued specific compliance instructions that the school must fulfill to address the identified shortcomings:

  • Complete disengagement of all other institutions from the campus premises.
  • Restriction of building and playground usage exclusively to GD Goenka High School students.
  • Establishment of separate entry and exit points away from the main road.
  • Construction of a permanent concrete boundary wall measuring six feet in height around the entire campus.

Additional Compliance Directives

The board has also mandated supplementary requirements that go beyond physical infrastructure. The school must now establish a composite science laboratory that meets CBSE standards. Furthermore, all administrative records must be maintained in accordance with the Affiliation Bye-Laws of 2018, standard operating procedures, circulars, and notifications issued by the board from time to time.

Critically, the school is prohibited from sharing any of its infrastructure or human resources with any other organization going forward. This comprehensive set of directives aims to ensure that the institution operates as a self-contained, secure educational facility that prioritizes student welfare above all other considerations.

The suspension serves as a reminder to educational institutions nationwide that CBSE affiliation comes with strict responsibilities. Schools must regularly audit their own compliance with safety norms and infrastructure guidelines to avoid similar penalties. The board’s willingness to take firm action against established institutions demonstrates its commitment to maintaining high standards across the country’s educational landscape.
