CBSE Adjusts Board Exam Schedule Across West Asia Amid Regional Tensions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced significant modifications to its Class 10 and Class 12 board examination schedule for students in several West Asian countries. The decision comes after a thorough assessment of the prevailing conditions in the region, with the board issuing an official circular detailing the revised arrangements.

Affected Countries and Scope of Changes

The updated examination schedule applies to students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools across Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The board has communicated these changes through an official notification, urging all stakeholders to take note of the revised dates and procedures.

Class 10 Examinations Called Off

In a major development, CBSE has cancelled all Class 10 examinations that were scheduled to take place between March 7 and March 11, 2026. Additionally, the exams originally planned for March 2, March 5, and March 6, 2026 — which had already been postponed earlier — will now be treated as cancelled as well.

The board has clarified that a separate announcement will be made regarding the methodology for computing and declaring the results of Class 10 students in the Middle East region. This ensures that students are not left in uncertainty about their academic future.

Class 12 Examination Postponed

For Class 12 students, the examination scheduled for March 7, 2026, has been postponed indefinitely. CBSE has confirmed that a fresh date for this particular paper will be announced at a later stage, giving students adequate time to prepare once the new schedule is released.

Review Meeting and Future Decisions

The board has indicated that it will conduct another review of the situation on March 7, 2026. Following this assessment, further instructions regarding the Class 12 examinations scheduled from March 9, 2026, onward will be communicated to schools and students. This stepwise approach allows the board to make informed decisions based on the evolving ground realities.

Guidance for Students and Parents

CBSE has advised Class 12 students to maintain regular communication with their respective schools and stay updated with official board announcements. This will help them receive timely information about revised examination dates and any other essential updates.

The board has also emphasized the importance of relying solely on official communications for accurate information. Students and parents are encouraged to disregard unverified claims or rumours circulating on unofficial platforms, as these could lead to confusion and unnecessary stress during this period of adjustment.

Context and Background

This is not the first time CBSE has had to intervene in the examination schedule for the region. The ongoing regional situation has already led to disruptions in the academic calendar, prompting the board to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and examination staff.

The decision reflects CBSE’s commitment to prioritising student welfare while maintaining the integrity and fairness of the examination process. By regularly reviewing the situation and issuing timely updates, the board aims to minimise disruption to students’ academic progression while keeping safety considerations at the forefront.

Schools in the affected countries have been instructed to keep parents informed about any developments and to assist students in navigating these changes smoothly. The collaborative approach between the board, schools, and families is expected to ease the transition as new examination dates are finalised and communicated.

Students are advised to continue their preparation during this period, as examinations will resume once the situation stabilises. Maintaining a consistent study routine will ensure they remain confident and well-prepared when the revised schedule is announced.
