How to Calculate Your Expected CUET UG 2026 Score

With the release of the provisional answer key for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2026, candidates across the country are now eager to estimate their performance before the official results are announced. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made the recorded responses, question papers, and provisional answer keys available on its official portal, allowing students to calculate their probable scores using the prescribed marking scheme.

This year, the CUET UG examination was conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode across two phases: from May 11 to May 31, and then on June 6 and 7, 2026. A total of 15,68,867 registered candidates appeared for the exam from centers located both within India and abroad.

Understanding the CUET UG Marking Scheme

To accurately compute your expected score, it is essential to first understand how marks are awarded or deducted in CUET UG. The marking scheme is straightforward:

  • Correct answer: +5 marks
  • Incorrect answer: -1 mark (negative marking)
  • Unanswered question: 0 marks (no deduction)

This means that for every correct response, a candidate earns five marks, while each wrong answer results in a penalty of one mark. Leaving a question unattempted does not affect the score in any way.

Step-by-Step Process to Calculate Your Expected Score

Candidates can determine their expected CUET UG score by comparing their recorded responses with the provisional answer key. The process involves counting the number of correct and incorrect answers and then applying the formula below:

CUET Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 5) − (Number of Incorrect Answers × 1)

In simpler terms, multiply the total correct answers by five, multiply the total incorrect answers by one, and subtract the latter from the former to arrive at your estimated score.

Practical Example of Score Calculation

To make the calculation process clearer, consider the following example. Suppose a candidate attempted a total of 50 questions in one subject. Among these:

  • 40 answers were correct
  • 8 answers were incorrect
  • 2 questions were left unattempted

Now, applying the formula:

  • Marks from correct answers: 40 × 5 = 200
  • Penalty for incorrect answers: 8 × 1 = 8
  • Final expected score = 200 − 8 = 192 marks

This straightforward method helps candidates gauge their likely performance and get a realistic idea of where they stand before the official results are published.

Raising Objections Against the Provisional Answer Key

If any candidate finds discrepancies or errors in the provisional answer key, they have the option to file a formal objection. The process requires payment of a prescribed fee, and only those objections submitted with the fee will be entertained.

Key details regarding the objection window are as follows:

  • Objection submission period: June 9 to June 11, 2026 (until 10:00 PM)
  • Fee per question: ₹200
  • Fee type: Non-refundable
  • Last date for fee payment: June 11, 2026, until 11:50 PM

It is important to note that objections filed without the requisite fee will not be considered under any circumstances.

When Will the CUET UG 2026 Result Be Declared?

Once the objection window closes, the NTA will review all submitted challenges with the assistance of a panel of subject matter experts. After a thorough evaluation, the final answer key will be released, and the CUET UG 2026 results will be prepared based on this final version. According to current expectations, the final answer key and the results are likely to be published within this month itself.

Until then, candidates are advised to use the provisional answer key and the marking scheme outlined above to calculate their expected scores, which can serve as a useful indicator of their performance in the entrance test.
